I have an all in one samsung which works ok but apparently not wifi with my apple stuff. I'm looking for a recommendation of another machine that can be guaranteed to work wit with my macbook, iPad and iPhone with the simplest possible set-up and operation (I am utterly hopeless with tech stuff).

My use is very light and sporadic (sometimes a month or two without any use). I can manage without colour. I really don't need many or sophisticated functions. Simplicity and reliability is what I'm looking for. Maybe a laser? Price isn't really an issue.

Thanks.

if you want to have seamless airprint ... there are (still) not many products avaiable.

i have a canon MG5370 ... (the one in the thread you posted before) wink.png

its certifyed and works right out of the box.

i use it with 2 iphones (ios 6 and 7) a ipad, my imac, 2 macbooks a VERY old imac running Tiger and even a windows pc (shame on me .. haha)

the only downside of it is, that the operation cost is quite high on this priter, but if you want a hazzle free life. this is the one to go.

here are the us related printers: http://store.apple.com/us/ipad/ipad-accessories/printers#!

the canon is not in this list .. but i can confirm it works perfectly !

Thanks a lot for the info. If I may just put a few follow-ups to which you may have useful comments

- what would the "seamless airplay" etc give you over your wifi printer?

- how much does your printer which you certify as working more than adequately cost?

- is the setting up, synching or whatever (I really am the opposite of a 'techie') really simple and 'idiot-proof'?

- do you think that the airplay ones will arrive in thailand soon - say this year? if they are much better i could keep why i have tip then

- are ink jet printers fine not used for months? (though i do scan regularly) vs a laser printer?

many thanks

actually iam a techie (a hardcore one) .. even in my house basically everything is automated.

but some standard things just need to work.

thats why i use apple products wink.png

the printer i suggested does suppirt "Airprint" as shipped.

this means (compared to other wifi printers) .. that you turn it on, make it join the wifi network and from this moment forward ALL your iOS devices will be able to print and scan on/with this printer.

with zero more effort on the device itself.

just turn it on, have it join your existing wifi network ... and you good to go.

okay for scanning you need a app which is free from the app store.

the OSX computers will not need anything to work (scan and print) .. will work immideatly without installing anything.

on windows (of course) you will need to install drivers and shit wink.png .. but thats a known hazzard.

i use this app on my ipad all the time to scan my invoices in, as its really easy to do .. no clicking arround at all ..

it just do the job.

the printer was not the cheapest one .. (i think i paid arround 7000 baht)

but what i meant about the operating cost was the super expensive inc. (about 700 baht per set)

there is a shop in Chamchuri square sells not original ones for this printer .. so there are some rare options to run a bit cheaper.

airprint is arrived in thailand already, but the selection of printers is very low.

they now have a HP model as well .. but it was way too expensive at this time, so i choose the cannon.

besides of the high cost for the inc. i dont regret buying it at all .. it just works!

i have no problem with this printer at all. about dry ink. but my wife does use it every month to print stock journals.

but for the rest of the time i more use it for scanning.

here are some more details about the printer: http://goo.gl/g6lZ7h

i bought it in istudio fortune .. but i think you can get them cheaper in other stores as well.

Thank you very much indeed for taking the trouble to answer me so promptly and clearly. May I just confirm then just the following points, and if I am correct in what I say you need say nothing more - or just a yes will be enough. (I don't want to put you to more trouble.)

1) So, as long as I use the printer say once a month - just a bit even - there should be no ink to drying problem (compared with a laser).

2) Is the official ink sold in the separate, individual colours or only for as the full set?

3) From your mention of your wife printing journals etc I am pretty certain that my use would be much lighter, so I probably won't mind just using the official canon ink - provided if it doesn't dry up even if not much used. What would really help me is an indication of how often or after how many pages you buy more ink.

4) The free scanning app that I need to get from the app store is just for the iPad and iPhone I understood.

Thanks again.

I have brother dcp- j315 wireless printer and with brother app from the store I can print wireless from all my apple devices.

Also it works perfectly with my android phone and pc's.

The only thing is don't set your wireless security to wpa2 because then the printer will not connect to the wireless.

right .. no dry out here ... at all!

sometime i not use it for 2 months, and it just continue printing like nothing happend.

2) Is the official ink sold in the separate, individual colours or only for as the full set?

seperate, i would NEVRR buy a printer with ink-set cartriges.

it has 5 Tanks (a larger black one for blak/white printing only)

4) The free scanning app that I need to get from the app store is just for the iPad and iPhone I understood.

iphone, ipad, ipod .. android as well .. (but i not have any andoid devices .. so i have no experiences in how well they perform)

to "just print" you wont need any app anyway. its just to scan and to manage scanned items.

on a Mac you not need any software at all for printing or scanning.

on windows .. well the usual driver drama .. but they have some sort of standard installer for this printer, so should be no big deal either.

I have brother dcp- j315 wireless printer

can you print emails from your mail app ?

the j315 is not a airprint printer, and this will cause "some" problems in some scenarios,

but if you are happy whith what the app does offer, then of course, this is probably a cheaper option as well.

Good question but I never tried that as I don't need to print them, only documents.

I checked just now and I could print my emails, but only the web version of my mail but i couldn't print the emails in for example the Gmail app (you could do it via a print screen but I don't think thats workable ;) )

Thank you gentlemen.

I will check the Apple shop and will get the Canon. I may glance at the HP that was mentioned and see why it's more expensive and if it's better - I certainly don't need more than the basic functions, but if the design is nicer.....
