Lt. Gen. Paradon Pattanatabut, Secretary General of the National Security Council, said when the situation was evaluated the likelihood of confrontation between protest groups was confirmed, especially with an election coming up.

However, responsible institutions have continuously evaluated the situation and found that overall, the present situation remains under the control of the Internal Security Act.

Red Fugitive Ko Tee Salutes Murdered Poet
By Khaosod English

13986803241398680457l.jpg

BANGKOK — Hundreds of Redshirt supporters packed the grounds of Wat Samien Naree Temple today to bid their final farewell to the pro-government poet and activist who was murdered last week.

Kamol Duangphasuk, 45, was shot dead by a pair of masked assassins on 23 April while he was starting his car in a restaurant parking lot in Bangkok.

Mr. Kamol, commonly known by his pen name Mai Nueng Gor Gunthee, was a longtime activist who was critical of the country’s lese majeste (insult of monarchy) laws. In the final years of his life, Mr. Kamol became closely aligned with the pro-government Redshirt movement.

Today’s cremation ceremony for Mr. Kamol was chaired by Jatupon Prompan, the chairperson of the Redshirt umbrella group the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD).

Although police have not determined a clear motive behind Mr. Kamol’s murder, many Redshirt activists who knew him privately have speculated that the activist was targeted in revenge for his alleged involvement with violent attacks on anti-government protesters in recent months.

The purported link between Mr. Kamol and the political violence that has beleaguered Bangkok since last November was corroborated by a letter reportedly hand-written by Wuttipong Kochthammakul, a "hardcore" Redshirt activist who has gone in hiding since he was charged with lese majeste several weeks ago.

The purported letter was published on the Facebook account of one of Mr. Wuttipong's close friends. In the letter, Mr. Wuttipong, aka "Ko Tee," expressed shock over Mr. Kamol's death, and he claimed to be currently living in exile in Cambodia.

Mr. Wuttipong wrote that he greatly missed the time when he and Mr. Kamol participated in "secret works," most of which were successful, the letter says.

"Please rest in peace," Mr. Wuttipong wrote in the letter. "The guerilla unit we have organised, both overground and underground, along with our idea-ideology-method of struggle, is still there."

The fugitive activist also saluted Mr. Kamol as the "brain" of the “people's struggle” movements.

He added, "Ten are killed, but hundreds of thousands more will be born. This is what we say, and it will be true. The Hundred Bundled Red Bamboos Campaign will continue in its resolve to unite [the masses] into a great log that shall break apart the wall of aristocracy."

It is unclear what “The Hundred Bundled Red Bamboos Campaign” refers to.

Mr. Wuttipong has not been seen in public since royalist activists filed lese majeste charges against him for negative comments he made about His Majesty the King in an interview with Vice News.

RT@Aim_NT: On the 180th day of the PDRC's rally today, Suthep Thaugsuban said the PDRC is getting close to the victory.

"Thailand is free from a government for 6 months already, too," Suthep said marking the 180th day of PDRC rally.

Suthep said he had to reiterate often that the PDRC would not accept coalition government as there had been many proposals nowadays.

Suthep said politicians and political parties would obstruct national reform as they think of their own interest.

"We will determinedly fight on undistracted," Suthep said. April 28, 2014 8.38pm

Don't dream that there will be negotiation. Don't imagine that Thaksin would compromise: Suthep said.

The truth is that we have to topple the Thaksin Regime so that the country can prosper and be peaceful. No other way: Suthep. Via @madoodao

Our stance: no negotiation with bandits: Suthep via @madoodao

RT@Aim_NT: We want national reform by the hands of the people, we don't need politicians' hands: Suthep. via @madoodao

Tropical storm to hit Bangkok and many parts till end of month

20140428_131817______________-wpcf_728x4

BANGKOK: -- The Meteorological Department today warned of more storms in Bangkok and most part of the country, except the southern and western regions, until end of this month as the strong high pressure system from China has now moved down to blanket the said areas from Monday until April 30.

In some areas of the North and Northeast, people are warned of possible hailstorm which could wreak havoc to houses during the period, it said.

Meanwhile Bangkok was struck by heavy rainstorm for an hour in many districts.

Strong winds from the rainstorm brought down many billboards and damaged several homes.

Damage to houses by bill board was reported at several housing estates in Soi Lad Pla Khao 79.

Strong winds pulled down a 20 meter steel framed protective roofing that was constructed to protect the homes from golf balls from a neighboring golf course.

The destroyed sections of the roofing were blown into many homes and sections of the steel frame collapsed and managed to penetrate into some homes. All in all, almost 50 houses were damaged and electricity was also shut off. Two homes in an adjacent housing estate were also damaged by the structure.

Bang Khen district officer Krid Kiattiponchart was on site to inspect the damage and a team will be sent later to take affidavits from home owners on the damages suffered.

The district office will also be coordinating with local police to receive complaints from affected parties as well.

Meanwhile sixty one homes in nine housing estates of the Sawai Jik area in the Buriram municipal area were severely damaged by a tropical storm that hit the area. Of these, two homes were completely destroyed and the owners have had to construct tents as temporary residences as the homes were being reconstructed.

Kalasin province also suffered a similar fate as it was hit by yet another tropical storm which damaged at least 150 homes. Monday’s storm is the fifth that has hit the province in a period of one month. Strong winds here also managed to flatten a 10 ton roof section of a garage and fortunately no injuries or fatalities were reported.
