Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) introduces a '100 baht' tourism package



BANGKOK, 29 April 2014 (NNT) – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) along with the private sector is organizing a tourism exhibition that offers a cheap promotional package tour costing only 100 baht for weekend trips.

TAT launched the “An unordinary, ordinary day” 2014 campaign under the concept of one price for all weekdays. The campaign hopes to boost domestic tourism and is catered towards business owners, groups and foundations of elderly people, and office workers who to spend their vacation with their families on weekdays.

An organized event will be held from May 15-18 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center where business operators of hotels, resorts, golf courses, airlines, and tourism attractions are expected to join the event. Participants of the event will provide promotional tourism packages ranging from 1,000 baht to 4,000 baht.

However, the highlight of the event would be a special promotional package for tourists to go on hotels and sightseeing – all that for only 100 baht.

Other tourist activities include packages for diving and golfing, as well as sales of low-priced products. Over 200,000 people are expected to attend the event and generate over 300 million baht in revenue.

I believe this would be the walking package, the tourists would assemble in their hotel lobby where they will be met by a qualified Thai tour Guide (complete with flag). The participants will then take a short walk to visit their local branch of the Thai phenomenon known as 'The Seven'.

Before entry to the 7-11 the tour guide will explain how and when the Thais invented these stores, after entry the tourists will be given exactly 28 minutes to investigate the treasures enclosed therein. before returning to their hotel.

A prize will be awarded to the tourist who guesses correctly the number of times the 'ding-dong' sounded during the 28 minutes. (to the nearest 100 will be ok).

Value for money tour, a sure fire hit.

The Chinese 0 baht tour to thailand is cheaper. Try beat that.

This reminds me of when I first came to Thailand and the Tuk Tuk drivers would offer to give me a tour of Bangkok for ten Baht. Straight to the tailor shop we went and the Tuk Tuk driver disappeared out the back door. I wonder how many shops you will be taken to with this Bt. 100 scheme. Welcome to Thailand; Hub of Scams.

Maybe this is how the UDD plans to get people to their next "rally." Just have them pay 100 baht to go on a "tour."

Double pricing is not just in Thailand. I was in Penang last week and the price for Malays up the Penang Hill funicular was 8 ringgit.

30 ringgit 'all other nationalities' Almost four times more, and it was barely worth it - there's not a lot up there.

hey come on 100 baht buys at least 12 trips on the ordinary non-aircon bmta buses in bkk if you select long trips and heavy traffic you could fill a good portion of the day and see a lot of bkk.

or if you are thai, you could take any number of free intercity 3rd class trains and still have you original 100 baht note intact, at the end of a weeks travel assuming you bring your own picnic lunch dinner and breakfast..

edit yeah and there are also the free bmta buses too so with a little planning and some free entry sites 100 baht no problem.

I hate to disappoint the naysayers, but these types of promotions typically involve corporate sponsors and contributions from hotels, restaurants and other service sectors. For the Spice and Splash promotion there were large numbers of supporting businesses.

Unfortunately, the story posted has left out additional background information. I don't know if it was intentional or just the typical shoddy Thai style of reporting.

What happened to the "luxury or high level" tourists instead of the "backpackers" they were seeking? Me thinks they are happy now to get any tourists brave enough to chance this political turmoil...

Maybe they should pay all participants 500 baht. It already works successfully for 'elections'...

100 baht for the 100 person tour groups per tour guide. Standing room only on the tour bus. A loaf of fish food bread given to serve as lunch too.

Poor article, giving no idea as to what this package may include and how it'll be funded, such an easy target for derogatory comments by TV posters.

Sounds like it's targeted at Domestic tourism, plenty of Thais doing this for the first time/s.

Further, it would appear to be a loss leader type of promotion as a part of the show, and would likely form part of the shows promotional budget. Other packages are offered from 1,000 to 4,000 baht. The article points out it is for domestic travel, therefore you would expect it to be mainly for Thais.
