Egypt: Death sentence for Brotherhood chief

Egypt: Brotherhood's Badie among mass death sentences

CAIRO: -- A judge at a mass trial in Egypt has recommended the death penalty for 683 people - including Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohammed Badie.

The defendants faced charges over an attack on a police station in Minya in 2013 in which a policeman was killed.

However, the judge also commuted to life terms 492 death sentences out of 529 passed in March in a separate case.

Also on Monday, a court banned a youth group that helped ignite the uprising that toppled Hosni Mubarak in 2011.

The decision passed in Cairo to outlaw the April 6 pro-democracy movement was based on a complaint that accused the group of "tarnishing the image" of Egypt and colluding with foreign parties.

Laozi quote :

“Do not conquer the world with force, for force only causes resistance. Thorns spring up when an army passes. Years of misery follow a great victory. Do only what needs to be done without using violence.”
The people are losing faith on the judiciary system, this are very dangerous scenario as it happen in front of us now.

We are talking about the group that cuts heads on camera in Syria, and blows crowded markets in Israel. I'm just saying.

Egyptians didn't have all that much faith in the judiciary system during Mubarak's reign, nor Morsi's (short) reign, or the current gang's reign.

The death sentences, regardless if carried out or not, are totally excessive and out of line.

Egypt was a stable military dictatorship, not sure if that was better or worse than trying a version of Islamic democracy.

They seem to be attempting to go back to the first option, although obviously not all Egyptians agree.

Peace is not profitable is the mantra and the hawks connected to the arms industry make sure its observed

In most countries

Its not negotiable, its a done deal, all sides of politics take part. The rest is illusion.

A good example is the huge and unnecessary fuss being made over the Ukraine.

Workers pay. All over the world.

Yes one of the three pillars of democracy. An uncorrupt judiciary. Sadly lacking here. Without the other two, freedom to vote unhindered, and real freedom of speech, how much of a democracy is Thailand.
