Good food in Pattaya

Recommended Posts

Shall we start a list of good places to eat in and around Pattaya?

For a family night I like Thai House,

then a couple of drinks at H20.

Moom Aroi in Sriracha has great food, and beautiful sunsets.

I love to sit there over the water.

Would love to discover new places that I haven't been to yet.

What about you?

The worst has got to Ruan Tai on second road. Although the food is edible, the service is a joke. I once made up a foursome, My partners food and my own came and we ate, then just as we finished eating our friends food arrived. I thought this was a one-off, but the same thing happened again and everyone I speak to say the same.

Perhaps they just need some training!

For a splash out I like Marta Hari on second road,Brit food (lets not start that debate again) Pig and Whistle.

Thai food at the seafood restaurants in Ban Saray

Girlfriend loves MK so I have to eat there a lot,not bad duck there.

Be happy when Subway opens in Carrefour

If you have a big appetite you should try the weekly buffet at Dusit resort( Every saturday 6:30 till 10:00 PM) . Certainly qualifies to impress visitors! Not cheap at 930 Baht net but worth every satang...

If you just want to stuff yourself, try the buffet at Apex, 160 Baht...

in no particular order these are some of my favorites...

Fuji - Big C

Good Japanese food and good prices.

Mata Hari - Second Road near Soi 9

Continental, somewhat expensive relative to Pattaya

Paradise - Second Road across from Royal Garden

Continental, Exotic Game.

Simpatico - Second Road across from Soi Pattayaland 1

Italian, good.

Le Cap Breton - Soi Chaiyaporn up from Soi Diana

French, but they also have regular food. Dumpy atmoshphere, very good food.

Kiss Food & Drink -Second Road across from Mike's Shopping Mall

Decent food, cheap. Best fried sea bass w/garlic&pepper in Pattaya at the location on Soi Diana, just up from the original.

Pig & Whistle - Soi 7

Good breakfast and fish&chips.

Carrefour - Food Court

Decent pizza and pasta at the place in the center.

McDonald's

Good for a 22 baht sundae.

Food hall on the top floor of the Royal Garden Plaza is not bad for price and quality. Its not 5 star grub but a good start for any newbies who are a bit worried about what they like -dont like-2 hot mai phet etc..They used to use vouchers like most of the places in bangers but last time I noticed they now use a computerised debit card which is much more hygenic.

Last thing at night crawing back to the gaff after a skin I go for those horrible little hamburgers/hot dogs from family mart-7-11 about 12 bt each (microwave min.1 minute) or if feeling flush a biggie from Damrak-Dammit-Damrok hamburger stalls (whatever) dotted around Pat.

Last thing at night used to be 4-30 jobbie in the morning after a final swallow in Soi Post Office.Malibu,Airborn bar etc. but looks like thats all going to change and it will now be early nights with a warm glass of milk. :o

This is typical Thailand.

It gets worse if you are with a Thai companion, you order a farang dish and she orders Thai. You can guarantee the Thai food will come first, and yours about 30 minutes afterwards.

Just get used to it!!

Well I am not the french Michelin guide but as I have the same look as "Bibendum" :o ,I will add my 2 bahts here

-Chez bernard Soi3.Correct prices ;good food ;some french specialties depending from the french people recently arrived who took some food with them.Has limited thai food choice for your tirac. From time to time even iranian caviar possible (ask to Bernard).Airco,comfortable.

And if you need an apperitve or a desert you have the naughty Welkom Inn on the other side of the soi :D

-99.I don't know the soi's name.Take Pattaya Thai direction Sukhumvit. After crossing with 3rd road take right in front of international telephone office.

99 is on your right about where the soi become.very relax place.

Good french and belgian food;(the cook worked in a 3 stars restaurant in Brussels)

Sauces are the best of Pattaya.Thai food too.

-Sanong's Brussels resto 504/523 Moo 10 Pattaya soi 17 (in front of yensabai condo).European menus cheap for the quality.Thai food too.Warm welcome, frendly staff. You are in the gay aera.Your tirac could be the only (real) girl in the resto :D

-Daho cafe. The best pizzas of Pattaya. It's an hotel too.Tke sukhumvit direction Sattahip Between Pattaya Klang and Pattaya Thai, take the soi on your left with a 7/11 at the corner.Continue till next 7/11 on your left.Take left in front of the shop.

Climb the hill (your shock absorbers will let you know why I say "climb" :D )

Daho cafe is on the left near the top of the hill

hope this help

Little Italy, on second road is, IMHO, the best Italian food in town.

Rosie O'Grady's has great fish and chips.

If you can travel out to Pala Beach, at Ban Chang, Chai Talay is realy nice, try the Pla Kapong, deep fried, mmmmmmm!

Last night I ate at La Piola on Second Road, opp. Pattaya Bazaar and I found it pretty poor :D . Many times I have eaten at La Piola in Suk 13 in Bangkok and the food is great but here it was bland and boring. I had a lasanga which I would have expected the proclaimed Italian chef to have done well but it was worse than one I make myslef and I am no chef.

For good eats, I went into La Gritta at the Amari when someone lese was paying and had a great meal with excellent home baked breads. :D

I also used to eat at Bruno's regularly when it was in North Pattaya but since its moved to Jomtien I have not found it to be so good - perhaps its because they are far busier than before and the service has suffered a lot in my opinion. :o

Also second suggestions on Mati Hara - great food. :D

Gregs Kitchen still does in MHO the best Roast beef and traditional sides, but he keeps putting up the price of his breakfasts every time I go their :D

Posted

One to get your wallies wrapped around :D (see posting on fav rests.)

Loads of other smaller joints dotted around the back between Walking st and 2nd rd.

Not the other side or you will end up in the sea. :o

Just avoid the "ladies"up the ally or you really might end up with a real unexpected ring burner ... of the 3rd kind:D

wcr.

where are you from then.

numpty, raj is ok, its on 3rd road although i waited over an hour for a take away once. also at foodmart on thappaya rd near threppasit junction there is a small indian which is not bad and good value.

ali baba is too expensive.

i'll pay good money for a meal if its good but unfortunatly no indians around here are that good.

i always stick to thai food its better than the crap i ate at home.

when in rome as they say.

Posted

cheers lads.that menu's got me chomping at the bit already...

im looking forward to some good thai food but there's something about a good indian...

i m in indonesia and the local food is crap. the town i m in has no decent restaurants, not one indian and certainly no thai. i look like a poster child for food aid :o:D

From the UK mate, which why I can say what I said :D

"Ring Piece Burners" such a rotten expression, usually used by idiot beer guzzling yobs after a night full of beer they go down the local indian, order the hottest food (just to be macho), throw insults at the indians, go home and throw up! Well thats the posh ones, the not so posh throw up outside on the road. Just the sort of tourist Toxin wants?

:o Reminds me of one of the reasons why I left Blighty.

I have yet to find an Indian in Pattaya comparible to the UK. Most seem to be the same as in India itself, that is suited to Indian tastes, not adapted to Brit tastes like in the UK.

All the mutton and chicken curries seem to be laced with splinters of bone that just wait to stab you in the gums.

Also have never seen bombay duck, which I used to love sprinkled into a good meat madras with pillau rice.

FROM THE UK ALSO,

THAT REMINDS ME OF MY YOUNGER YEARS IN LONDON, GLAD TO SAY THAT I,VE GROWN OUT OF ALL THAT NOW.

MJCL

I'VE NEVER BEEN TO INDIA BUT YOUR RIGHT,

WORKING IN LONDON BEFORE LIVING HERE, I KNOW ALOT OF INDIANS AND WITH EATING THERE HOME COOKING OR EATING IN BRICK LANE OR SOUTHALL THE TASTE IS COMPLETLY DIFFERENT TO THE RUBYS YOU GET FROM THE NORMAL TAKE AWAYS, IE TIKKA MASALA WHICH IS'NT EVEN TRUE INDIAN.

PERSONALLY I PREFER THE AUTHENTIC STUFF ALTHOUGH I'D LIKE IT TO BE HOTTER.

AS I SAID BEFORE TRY THE SMALL INDIAN BY FOODMART ON THRAPPAYA RD ITS GREAT AND HALF THE PRICE OF ALI BABA. ALSO THEY DELIVER

The Raj on 3rd Road is passable, the 'ghost vindaloo lamb' is hot and takeaway price is £3.00 sort out your own rice, the rice at Raj is terrible, grab a 10 baht bag of rice from any Thai vendor.

Ali Baba is Indian for Indian as someone mentioned, it only survives on massive Indian tour buses that brings scores of tourist Indians.

Best option is to make your own to your own specifications, or go to an English restaurant like Greggs Kitchen on 2nd Road, and he'll sort you out a curry as hot as you want.

My recommendation is to go to Royal Garden Plaza food on the 2nd floor and get the beef curry from the 'North Thai food' stall. Hot Beef curry with rice for £1.00, get some water as well!

Good french and belgian food;(the cook worked in a 3 stars restaurant in Brussels)

Sauces are the best of Pattaya.Thai food too.

Rungland - there is also the best money-changer about four doors in from Wat Chai. Sign over door says BANK. Gives me the best exchange rates in Pattaya.

how is the food at this place?

queen vic

the menu looks good...i'll be there in a couple of weeks

the green bottle is usually ok...

Nothing special - went there a week ago, when wife was away, so that I could have some Brit pub-grub. Had steak pie in guiness. Nothing like I make. Must have been dipped in, rather than marinated.

I like PIC for Thai food, also Ruen Thai (which is criticised above). But you all have to order similar dishes, otherwise no guarantee on delivery.

Sugar Hut also good for a night out with family or to impress in-laws.

Basic euro-food - Greg's kitchen, but his Thai food is not for Thais.

Breakfast - Crazy Dave's and watch 'Fools and Horses' on half a dozen different tellies.

most of the indian restaurants in the uk are owned and run by bangladeshis from the town of sylhet in the north east of the country. i spent a few years in bangladesh and travelled to india a bit but didn t enjoy the food as much as idoina place like mrs balbirs

and while i can see where wcr is coming from, iprefer to enjoy my meal so i have it sans a bellyfull of ale

Let me throw a new one at you. The last time I was there (Jan), I found this new place two minutes from my house. The food is terrific, both Farang and Thai. It is well prepared, inexpensive, the pepper steak is something to die for and the beer is cold. Now if I can just vector you in.

Go out Soi Nern Plub Wan (aka Muslim Road, aka Old Soi Formosa) heading away from Sukhumvit and toward the large temple and Siam Country Club. Almost exactly three (3) kilometers away from Sukhumvit, there will be a slight curve to the right in the road. It is in the apex of this curve that the restaurant is located.

It will be on your left heading away from Sukhumvit, has a wall around it, is well lighted with parking inside the perimeter wall. You will see some dining tables under the roof so it is recognizable as a restaurant. It is new, clean and the service is friendly and good. I highly recommend it.

I do not know the name of the place. It is owned by a Brit and managed by his Thai wife. I will be back in late March and will eat most of my meals there again. Here is the phone number for your taxi or if you should get lost:

09-062-1060

Good luck and enjoy.

I have been passed this info by bilbo1au.

I am not clear why he did not post it directly.

Had the Roast Chicken at the Queen Vic and I think the chicken must have been pretty quick and might have lived until a ripe old age (for a Thai chicken) before they caught him. Still it is a very cosy/friendly place and I'm sure the rest of the food would be better quality. Good beer, good atmosphere and of course always interesting to watch the goings-on in the notorious soi 6.

The roast lunch/dinner at Shenagigans is okay, but have also tried other parts of the menu and been somewhat disappointment. A total rip-off is the Chip Bunty. It promised six thick slices of bread with plenty of chips and condiments. Out trotted three waver-thin slices of white bread cut in half. Plenty of chips but hardly any bread - condiments consisted of salt/pepper and sauce if you asked for it. Pretty miserable really and not cheap (check menu).

Pig 'n Whistle is much better value. Good food, nice place and big serves. Some of the local ex-pats put me into the place. "If you want a good meal, and you want a big meal, the Pig s the place."

For a quick and inexpensive lunch, drop into the large store on the corner of second road and Central Pattaya rd. Good cheap lunch, and you can store up at the supermarket with beer and fruit, etc. Very nice looking restaurant up the escalator as well, but I haven't eaten there.
