EGAT maintains that electricity services would not be disrupted

BANGKOK, 19 May 2014 (NNT) - The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has told the public not to worry about a possible shutdown of electricity services nationwide due to the political protests.

EGAT Governor Sunchai Kamnunset revealed that as many state enterprise workers were planning to go on strike on May 22nd in a bid to topple the current government, the public have become increasingly concerned over a stable supply of electricity.

However, Mr. Sunchai has downplayed such a concern by saying that EGAT is responsible for electricity distribution and will actively continue its duty as usual.

Due to the unreliable political situation, EGAT has instructed its staff members to maintain tight security around power stations and electric distribution networks.

Jatuporn reports himself to the court with a promise to attend hearings

5-19-2014-9-58-35-PM-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK : -- United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship chairman Jatuporn Promphan rushed to the Ratchadapisek Criminal Court Monday afternoon after he learned that a warrant for his arrest had been issued by the court for his failure to attend a court’s hearing.

He told the court that he had no intention to deliberately delay the case or to try to escape. He explained that he didn’t attend the hearing in the morning because he learned that Buddha Issara would lead a group of anti-government protesters to the court and he was afraid that there would be a confrontation which could lead to troubles at the court.

The court however made Jatuporn to make a promise that he would show up for the hearing scheduled on May 26. But if the promise is broken, the court said that the UDD leader would be regarded as intending to delay the case and to try to escape.

Jatuporn is facing a defamation charge lodged against him by Democrat party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva for making speeches in December 2010 accusing Mr Abhisit, then prime minister, of ordering the killing of red-shirt protesters during the protests in May of the same year.
