it means dear lads that you are going to have to be very careful what you speak here BIG BROTHER watching

Rubbish! The military monitor TV? As a friend of mine said on another forum: They couldn't monitor milk!

The security forces and agencies now report to the the military. I have been advised by PM from a Mod is response to one of my posts that was removed, that security agencies do monitor internet traffic, that includes TV, in Thailand & whilst it is rare, action is taken.

Why ddn't the mod share that with everybody and not wait until someone transgressed?

When I experienced my first coup in Thailand I purchased tickets out of country. Now I'm more like "Ah ok, what's for dinner?".

What the martial law entails

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Military commanders in troubled areas have the authority to enforce martial law, if it looks like war or riots may break out.

Martial law gives military officers the power to:

- Take action against war or riots;

- Use arms to suppress unrest;

- Search, confiscate or occupy any premises or vehicles;

- Censor information;

- Block, search and control postal services;

- Activate the military court to judge on crimes within the area under martial law;

- Mobilise civilians to help the military;

- Procure resources such as vehicles or logistical materials to support military operations;

- Prohibit public gatherings, publications, broadcasting, transport,

communication, travel, the movement of people or any action that the Defence Ministry deems necessary;

- Enforce curfews;

- Destroy, remove or adjust any premise or location for the purpose of military operations;

- Arrest and detain suspects for a maximum of seven days.

- People are not entitled to any compensation for damage incurred during such military operations;

- Martial law can only be ended with a Royal Decree.

The Lerm is now jobless, time for him to do the honourable thing and cut off his head

555. Chalerm. Honorable.

More likely he's gone to Plan B and donned his disguise.

My missus is in BKK right now. Flying to Udon this morning staying at Best Western next to Bumrungrad. She is scared to death but she's like that.

I'd really like some info on traffic and whether the military is visible on the streets ...

Traffic will be very light and she should not be scared. She should go to the airport in time as their might be only few taxis. She is safe in her hotel room and even outside.

Martial law imposed across the country

5-20-2014-7-18-43-AM-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Army Commander-in-Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha declared martial law across the country effective as of 3 am Tuesday citing violence perpetrated by armed elements against the people and the tendency that violence may escalate.

The army chief also ordered the dissolution of the Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order (Capo) with immediate effect and all the forces, especially the police, working under the Capo return to their original units.

In the meantime, the army chief ordered the setup of the Directorate of Peace Keeping in charge of maintaining peace and order and also ordered the police and officials under the jurisdiction of the Interior Ministry to be answerable to the Internal Security Operations Command.

Thai government not consulted about martial law: PM's aide

BANGKOK, May 20, 2014 (AFP) - Thailand's embattled government was not consulted in advance by the military about the declaration of martial law but it is still in power, said the chief security adviser to Prime Minister Niwattumrong Boonsongpaisan.

"The caretaker government still exists with Niwattumrong as caretaker prime minister. Everything is normal except the military is responsible for all national security issues," Paradon Pattanatabut told AFP.

Coups, floods, extra judicial killing sprees, occupation and burning of buildings in capital, political chaos on the streets, rice policies, corrupt governments, civil war, irrational violence and now martial law.

Sometimes I feel like I'm living in some sort of extra terrestrial soap opera rather than a country.

Probably 70% of those issues also apply to your home country.

Try 10% lol

Hopefully the military will be issued with rubber bullets and the authority to use them.

Democracy is about freedom to vote... One person, one vote. Not everyone will be happy.... It is always so. Lobbyists then go to work to attempt to push thru laws etc to suit their party.

Simple

Democracy

Government of the people for the people... Vs a government controlled by the rich, as was the norm a few hundred years ago, when a noble could arbitrarily execute a peasant who offended said nobleman.

Is this what the majority of Thai citizens want!

Just listening to an interview with Scott Morrison (Aust Imm Minister) and Niel Mitchell, apparently Australia will be upgrading their travel warning and have said that Australian should consider leaving the country.

Of course they would say that. Can you imagine the outcry if they did not make a warning and some dumb tourist walked into a Thai on Thai fight and got shot up? It's all about being seen to be doing something when they can do nothing.

Why does Thailand even have a military? All they do is covert power and money.

The role of the military is to defend the country and we have seen what happens if someone attacks Thailand in the past. The military runs home to cry to their mums.

The simple answer to your question is, given the state of the police force here, without the Army, Thailand would already be in a state of anarchy.

The Army is clearly paying attention to what you correctly state is their role and defending the country. Since it is now clear that the PTP is involved in providing weaponry, despite their best efforts to avoid this being revealed, they have now shown their true colours, and the Army must step in to prevent these weapons being used on innocent people.

They have shown no concern about the weaponry and violence of the yellow thugs that have been in BK for the last 6 months coffee1.gif

yeah, suthep and his thugs have been so busy blowing up and shooting their supporters. get back to your padded cell please
