Does anyone know if it is possible to buy PIR (Passive infra red) security lights in Pattaya? We are in the UK at the moment and my wife wants to bring some back. This seems a little crazy to me, but she is convinced that they can not be obtained in Thailand. Has anyone seen them any for sale anywhere?

Thanks.

Not sure what PIR is, but If that's the kind that turns on automatically when it gets dark, or turns on when someone passes within the beam (heat sensors), then there's plenty out here. Got some on the side of my house and they are widely available at light shops.

On a related subject, can anyone recommend a contractor to install a burglar alarm system, and maybe closed circuit cameras?

Try ESC, European Security Concepts ( I think, big add in the trader, sadly in HK now so can not give you their number )

Thet have a tie to the local OB in the lovely District of Pong, and for a fee will guarantee they turn up if your alarm goes off ( seems they pay for bikes, guns etc )

I have dealt with Master Safety Enterprises over the years. Very professional outfit with a good after-sales service.

Call André on 01 912 8383. :o

Seconded :o

He's just finished installing a system at my place.

My neighbour got a system from another company and is very disappointed with the result compared with ours, and is going to get André to update his system with better components.

BTW, his number is now 04 141 3787.

Re the PIR lights, they are widely available as combination lights/sensor units at the larger lighting and homeware stores... but I have not seen any of the sensors sold separately.

Last time I went back to Australia, I bought some of these sensors back here with me... as I like the idea of having a discretely mounted sensor controlling floodlights that are mounted elsewhere to give maximum coverage. They could be connected to any lighting circuit.

Maybe something to think about whilst you're still in the UK Rich.

"untra-violet" ? "motivated laser-guided" ? What motivation do your laser cannons have ? What is "untra-violet" ?

Not that it matters. Like all technology, as fast as something new is designed, a way around it is also discovered.

Like my reflective technology cloak that allows me to blend into almost any background. Now that I know you aren't using thermal technology, I don't have to use the heat-dispersion upgrade.

10 months to go until the mayhem begins again !!! :D

Do you have their number? Can't find anything on the net.

Think I'll try ESC and MSE and see what they have to say.

Getting a bit nervous out here in the sticks with minimal security. :o

Thanks

Mobi, they will not be heat sensative, the type of thing being discussed here is Infra Red. Heat sensative is not the sort of thing available to the avarage moe (ie, us).

PIR devices are exactly what is need to ring a bell once someone crosses a line ie the beginning of your driveway. Or once you step into your bathroom a PIR device can start the extraction fan and turn the light on.

I deal with this technology daily albeit in an industrial setting.

Passive Infre-red is the basic motion detector used in many security systems ....
