Members of the government not worried over imposition of martial law

BANGKOK, 21 May 2014 (NNT) – Members of the government said on Tuesday they were not worried over the military's imposition of martial law, and that thorough consideration must have been made on the armed forces' part.

Justice Minister Chaikasem Nitisiri said the government was not troubled by the military's imposition of martial law, as he believed thorough evaluation had been undertaken by the armed forces. He said the military was stepping in to take the place of the Center for Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO) to restore peace and order.

He also expressed the belief that Army Commander-in-Chief Prayuth Chan-ocha will not leave the way open for the Senate to nominate a 'neutral prime minister', and that the Army chief will likely come up with a resolution that does not lead to turmoil.

Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt, meanwhile, told reporters that he spoke with acting Prime Minister Niwatthamrong Boonsongphaisan by phone as the acting premier did not call a full Cabinet meeting in response to the martial law declaration.

According to him martial law imposition was a matter of the military seeking to maintain order. The transport minister revealed that his scheduled trip to Chiang Mai with Mr. Niwatthamrong on Tuesday morning was cancelled. He also indicated that transportation in Bangkok was unaffected by the martial law.

Former National Security Council chief Paradon Phatthanathabut said the imposition of martial law was, by law, within the Army chief's power. He explained that the military is entitled to declare martial law, then speedily report the imposition of the law to the Cabinet.

He added that after considering the country's internal situation, the military must have deemed it necessary to invoke martial law. Lieutenant General Pharadon indicated the armed forces have already reported the law's imposition to the Cabinet, and hence the development was no cause for concern.

You should be looking more at the fact that the army did not consider YOU in in any of its 'thorough consideration'. So really, I should be very worried if I were you lot.

Their red tinted glasses are even more tinted than the ones on here.

They are very naive to think, that military has anything good in mind.

Elections will be postponed, indefinitely.

It feels, like this article was censored, everything is nice and legal

Then again - everybody who is not currently occupying a government position has to keep their mouth closed - that includes PDRC and UDD rallies.

The POMC has declared that any broadcasting of individuals who are not government officials will be prohibited from giving any political views or opinions on national television, as the center wishes to prevent escalation of protests and crowds becoming riled up after listening to such broadcasts.

Therefore, according to the martial law that has recently been invoked, all operators of media, which include print media, television, radio, press, hosts and/or anchors will not be allowed to interview or invite any individual who is not currently in a governmental position to publicly air their political opinions.

Doesn't matter whether they are worried or not, there's <deleted> all they can do about it now . . . all this "news" from the Govt is simply to keep them in the headlines so they are not forgotten about . . . they're not actually doing much (if they ever did) constructive anymore . . .

Seeing as the PTP can not help themselves and always find some excuse to sue someone or other , I do notice they haven't as yet taken measures to sue General Phrayuth , so the Marshal law is taking effect, but having said that I would be very worried ,very worried indeed.bah.gif

There Pheu Thai goes again. It's apparently called " thought transference " - assuring themselves of what someone else is thinking. Pheu Thai are really grasping at straws here. They weren't consulted about the imposition of martial law. CAPO has been dissolved. UDD stations have ceased. Jatuporn's mega-rally of less than 1,000 people is contained. Chalerm is catching up with soap operas. From the Earth to Pheu Thai - you aren't in control. It doesn't matter if you're worried or not worried about the imposition of martial law. Nobody cares.

They still haven't got the message yet - General Prayuth is at the front of the democracy bus with his hands firmly on the wheel - PTP are being towed behind in a wooden trailer on the end of a long rope - the trailer is equipped with a big plastic steering wheel and they are trying to let on they are in control of the bus - quick - left turn - right turn - see we are in control ..... right ?

That just about sums it up for me

And if they say much more someone will cut the rope

Putting on a brave face and saying this to try and keep face. We weren't consulted by they reported to us of course.

Notice they avoid saying why it was so necessary to declare martial law and dissolve CAPO.

Hopefully, they won't throw it away. There are many uses for a length of good rope.

BP = Bangkok Post?

I've just gone throught their story list and can't find any such claim. Can you be more specific on your claim so I can find the BP story by search?

That pesky martial law they're using was written before the internet age!

Moreover, all provincial governors, along with all related government officials under the Ministry of Interior, which include the national police chief, are to take action and halt any and all ongoing protests. Any region that deems the situation uncontrollable must report immediately to nearby army commanders for reinforcements.

Did they block protests? Because they're still ongoing, Suthep has announced his plans for a big final protest 26th May. Reds are still holding their rally at Aksa road, this is from a few minutes ago on one of the live TV feeds:

I know that Chadchart (transport minister) on behalf of the army, was busy organizing transport to take all protestors back to their homes, but I hadn't heard they'd blocked protests. Yet this page says they have.
