Mae Sai crossing -got a 15 day visa exemption stamp 21-05-14

Featured Replies

I'm a UK national and my Dutch boyfriend just got a second 15 day visa exemption stamp today at Mae Sai with no problem and no questions asked. He's on his way back on the Green Bus but I thought I'd post this as it's concrete evidence that it is possible to get more than 1 visa exemption stamp.

We arrived in Thailand in November 2013 on a single entry Tourist Visa from Penang. In January 2014 we went to Laos and re-entered Thailand on a double entry Tourist Visa. When that ran out we went to Mae Sai on 7th May and got our first visa exemption stamp. I got 30 days as a UK citizen and my Dutch boyfriend got 15 days. Today he went to Mae Sai and got his second 15 day visa exemption stamp.

We were worried that they would start the new rules and say that because he had a 15 day visa exemption stamp 2 weeks ago he couldn't have another. No-one seemed to be posting about actual experiences at the Mae Sai border. So it does seem like the new rules start 13th August.

That is great that he got the 15 days but I hope that there is not a lot of people going up there to get it. As the other thread said there were people being turned back.

Maybe the government has had a change of heart. But you can not always count on it.
