2 sides to this news.....

Either it is a good news and some reforms happens.... Let's hope....

Or might get some hit-the-fan.gif.pagespeed.ce.6UelFDbFNJ. alt=hit-the-fan.gif width=59 height=43>

Sadly I think that the latter is more likely at this juncture. The military knows that they acted in an illegal fashion, so why not just suspend the constitution to hide your illegal activities I didn't think this would happen until a certain someone passed, now it will be interesting to see if foreign assets are frozen in the kingdom, if they are then those hedge funds and money managers who pulled their investments out of Thailand over the past 6 months will look like geniuses alt=thumbsup.gif>

We are in 2014 though..

Clever military with assets themselves would know they cant isolated themselves for the sake of the country and investments...

Some Dubai assets may need to be frozen until further investigation though,,,

Returned if cleared..

Confiscated if not cleared...

Worldwide investments are too much power to seize even for the current military

Edit: But i must agree that military suspended their own constitution is a surprising news...

Will be interesting to see how it unfold ...

The "Dubai assets" you speak of have been frozen for many years already, as far as worldwide investments having too much power to be seized by this military, just wait and see my friend wink.png The thing about meglomania is that it increases the more power someone gets and when someone gets absolute power like the General currently has then it expands exponentially. First you control the streets then you control the government, then you control all mass media, then you set curfews and of course you suspend the constitution so that there is no action that you can take that would be deemed illegal. Very standard playbook, the old saying that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely comes to mind here. I hope for the future of Thailand that foreign assets within the kingdom are not frozen, but to think that it can not happen is being a bit naive thumbsup.gif

Or to stop cheaters continually winning by cheating. There should be section in the new constitution in which should be clearly stated whoever is caught bullying political opponents, bribing and cheating their way into politics should be automatically banned for life....

And how about: "Politicians must prove the source of their wealth"?
Not only politicians. That rule should apply to police, military, senior public servants, the judiciary. Accountability 101.

For once I totally agree with you.

Thanks wai2.gif

Hopefully Thainess will prevail....

This is not North Africa or the golf... Money first....

Money before power so there is hope as all worldwide ivestments are linked together

Didn't the army draft that one?

No they had a large group drafting this one...not from the army direct.

It was a large group. All were either directly or indirectly controlled by the military. It's a called coup for a reason.

YAY time to try to rewrite things to suit yet again....

If you cant win ... cheat

Or to stop cheaters continually winning by cheating. There should be section in the new constitution in which should be clearly stated whoever is caught bullying political opponents, bribing and cheating their way into politics should be automatically banned for life. I guess that leaves current red side of the political spectrum without a single suitable candidate. If this country is ever to move forward now is the time for complete and exhaustive cleaning.

<deleted>! All Dems have to do is get more MP's simple!!!!

Don't forget the last time this happened, Immigration knocked back every visa renewal application for weeks. people were told to "Get out!" by the Immigration officers.

Personally I think suspending the constitution was brilliant and right on time, and here's why...

Thaksin told Niwattumrong Boonsongpaisan that the constitution trumps martial law and therefore

didn't have to step down. So when Thaksin rejected Prayuth's proposal for the caretaker PM

to step down he had to do what he had to do. Som num na Khun Thaksin, you lost!

According to MIchael Yon, he posted on Facebook there is information that Thaksin's sister

and brother-in-law have fled the country.

So the plot thickens, but we still have Internet, so all's good!

What a narrow minded comment. The thai people and the country lost today, this effects everyone here. In a year or two when elections happens again the same people will win again. That is if the new constitution is without the people from Bangkok getting their vote to count as double or only .25%. of the lower and upper house to be filled by elected officials and the rest nominated.

So Crooked Politics is only reserved to Thailand than?

X-President Harry Truman once said that, "I had Two Paths to follow in Life." " To either be a Piano Player in a Whore House, or be a Politician." Then said, "To tell you the truth, there isn't much difference."

Ah yessss!

9:05 pm

Former head of the Center for the Administration of Peace and Order Chalerm Yoobamrung and his sons were arrested by soldiers and escorted to the First Infantry Regiment of the Royal Guards.

What do you call Suthep, Chalerm + sons, Jatuporn, Nattawut and Thida sharing a cell?

AN AWESOME START! THROW AWAY THAT KEY!

Give it a rest folks.....so far it hasn't affected the ex-pat community nor will it, if past efforts are something to go on! Please try and contain those tizzy fits most of you are very prone to!

Now all we have to do is sit back and watch how the cards fall?? thumbsup.gifcoffee1.gif

If you banned all the politicians who bully, bribe and cheat then you'd be struggling to get the five the military WILL allow to gather in one place. coffee1.gif

Never in a million years could I have seen this coming cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif Like I stated in a post yesterday the only way suthep and abhisit could get back in power is to come in behind the tanks like the last time wink.png Of course this time they risk an all out civil war .

There cannot be a civil war in a country that no longer exists.

Tv censored, media censored, freedom of movement banned, constitutuion suspended, economy ruined - woohoo this must be the great victory so many on here have wanted all along. Let the party start, North Korea style thumbsup.gif

TPTB have been studying this model for a while and slowly implementing it worldwide. Coming to a country near you in the near future.

surely, having weatlh is not the issue. How does disclosing wealth help anything ?

( e.g. Most people are aware of Thaksin's wealth and that is admired in many quarters)

The problem is when that wealth and the influence it buys are misused.

As has been stated so many times on this Forum, strong Law and it's enforcement, along with Regulatory powers are the only way

Who cares????????

In a few weeks the Dollar and Euro will be skyrocking again.

I love this country.........

The Dollar might make small gains, however I don't see the Dollar skyrocketing until the FED starts raising interest rates late this year-early next year thumbsup.gif

Never going to happen. Rates will not go up in our lifetime, so says Ben Bernanke.

The majority of the rest of the world has long moved on from throwing the toys out the pram. Not here

There is always an excuse to have yet another coup here, Probably always will be too.

Ahh well automatic international sanctions, funding and foreign investment drying up will follow.

Took all of 48 hrs for this is not a coup trust us to change.... dont Thai to me springs to mind.
