Huge sun dog over Pai

Featured Replies

Just went outside and checked and no joy here in Mae Taeng.

It looks like a rainbow encircling the sun. This one had the biggest diameter I've ever seen. The smaller grey ones around the moon are far more common, but they are both caused by high altitude ice crystals that don't form easily in the tropics I guess.

Sorry no photo - I don't think I would want to aim a camera directly at the sun anyway...

Saw a good one in Bkk once.

Did you get a pic ? A bit difficult without a strong filter I guess.

it was taken 45 mins ago, not exactly a full sun dog but I can only get a pic when the clouds covered it partially.

I saw a beautiful one in BKK in 1981. sun overhead, surrounded by halos, and then 8 small suns all around the horizon, each with halos. everyone just stared with their mouths open.... WOW!

That's a nice shot of an Iridescent cloud! I saw some a couple years ago over the Doi Suthep hills but only had my cell phone camera so it didn't come out as well as yours.

Seen the Halo effect a few times many years ago--I thought it was just due to substance abuse, guess I wasn't thaat stoned.
