Certfied Copies for Visa Application

Featured Replies

Greetings,

In the application for the Visitor Visa - Tourist Stream, we are asked not to provide original documents unless requested but instead to provide 'certified copies' of the original documentation. Is it sufficient to sign and date the copies ourselves or must we take them to a official institution to have them certified?

If we do need to take them somewhere, any tips on where and who for convenience and value?

What country are you referring to?

Some consulates require sight if the originals, plus copies.

I believe that self certification is acceptable in other cases.

This is for an application for the Visitor Visa to Australia. So I suppose my question should be: what do the Australian Embassy require?

It would seem that the copies can be certified by VFS staff:

Where to certify documents

Certified copies are copies authorised or stamped as being true copies of originals, by a person or agency recognised by the laws of the persons home country. All personal documents such as Birth Certificates, Marriage Certificates, Household Registration Book, Educational Qualifications, etc. must be certified by the relevant local district office as follow

Thanks very much for this.
