This year,ie in the next monthor two, I will be applying for retirement extensions.

At the moment I'm working outside Thailand 8 on 2 off and my Multi O will run out very soon. Obviously I'm not working in Thailand so the original plan was to use 30 days visa exemption say 3 or 4 times until the end of the contract. Not easy to apply for a visa where I am, distance/time etc.

In light of recent events this is looking like a scenario that might not work, so, to the question.

If I apply for retiral during one of my 2 weeks breaks and have to leave the country again for 8 weeks will this have any effect on the retirement extension being issued. ?

Do not believe they still issue visa/extension at same time - you must have non immigrant O visa first and then after 60 days obtain the extension. You can get re-entry permit to travel and keep that 90 day entry alive however and do extension on return. But they have issued retirement at same time as conversion for some so it might be possible to do all in one visit.

You can apply for the extension of stay based upon retirement during the last 30 days of any of your 90 day entries from the visa. Since you will only have two weeks here you could apply for a re-entry permit (1000 baht) for your last 90 day entry and then do the extension as soon as you re-enter the country.

You will need 800k baht in a Thai bank in your name only for 60 days or a 65k baht income proven by a letter from your embassy.

After you get the extension you would need to apply for a multiple re-entry permit (3800 baht) to keep you extension valid.

But in reality you should not have a problem getting 30 day visa exempt entries with your work schedule. You would not fall under the in/out rules in anyway somebody was to look at it.

I suppose it might depend on the Immigration office where you apply for the O visa and extension.

We arrived in Thailand mid-December on tourist visas, obtained an embassy letter for each of us, rented a condo, and opened a Bangkok Bank account with the proper deposit for my wife to make up the shortfall in her income.

We went to Chonburi Immigration on 14 January, prepared to simply get the O visa, and then wait to apply for the one year extension. The officer told us to go to the bank, get a letter verifying the deposit, and come back the next day.

We did so, and were issued both the O visa and the extension (good through 15 April of the following year) on the same day.

Money isn't a problem, I was just a bit concerned about the 30 day entries etc.

Oh well, just means another couple of days somewhere to get a new O. Will try for another Multi and let you know how it goes.

That sounds like a plan, when you say Chonburi where exactly is the Imm' office ?

Replied about getting another O before I saw your post.

As said, with coming to Thailand and leaving regularly for an extended time you do not fall under the new regulations, as you are obviously not permanently staying in Thailand.

The Immigration office for Chon Buri is on Jomtien Beach Road Soi 5. Good staff and very efficient.

Money isn't a problem, I was just a bit concerned about the 30 day entries etc.

Oh well, just means another couple of days somewhere to get a new O. Will try for another Multi and let you know how it goes.

If you non-o visa is good for one more entry. You could do what I suggested in my previous post.

After you enter the country and get the 90 day entry. You would need to go to immigration and get a single re-entry permit. Then leave the country and return using the re-entry permit to get the remainder of your 90 day non-o visa entry and then go to immigration and apply for the one year extension.

Mis-calculated on that one UJ so will be 30 days visa exempt this time, thought was 24th but is actually 14th.

Do you have the money in the bank already or can you get a proof of income letter from your embassy or consulate?

You could do the conversion to a 90 day non immigrant visa entry at immigration from the 30 day entry. Then as soon as you have the visa/entry stamp you could get a re-entry permit for the 90 days and then apply for the extension when your return.

Money is already there and not a problem, both ways, so might go for the 90 days non and the re-entry, saves wasting a few days, during my time off, by flying somewhere.

Update,

Came through Swampy the other day, no questions asked and 30 day visa exempt issued with a smile. As an add, Imm' was very quiet, absolutely no queuing, in fact had a choice of booths so picked one with a very attractive looking lady officer.

Can you apply the last 60 days ? or 85 days ? Do you have to wait ?violin.gif

If you have a 90 day non immigrant visa entry you can apply for an extension of stay during the last 30 (45 some offices) of your entry.

If you have tourist visa entry (or exempt entry) you must have 15 days remaining on your entry to apply for a conversion to a non immigrant visa entry. You could apply on day one of your entry.
