UPDATE:

Washington not yet decide on sanctions against Thailand

BANGKOK, 22 June 2014 (NNT) - The U.S. has announced that it will not yet impose sanctions on 23 countries, including Thailand, it downgraded to the lowest “Tier 3” of the U.S. human trafficking watch list.

Surin Chamber of Commerce: Thai-Cambodia border trade surges

BANGKOK, 22 June 2014 (NNT) – The Surin Chamber of Commerce has revealed that border trade between Thailand and Cambodia has been rising since the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) launched a number of measures on politics, economy, society, and security.

Kriangsak Palikup, the President of Surin Chamber of Commerce said that border trade, especially at Chong Jom checkpoint has been growing. The investment environment is improving. Thailand has registered a trade surplus around 3-4 billion baht each year while its imports from Cambodia are valued at only 100-200 million baht.

In the meantime, Mr. Kriangsak suggests entrepreneurs seek loans to boost investments, particularly in construction and employment. The Chamber of Commerce is considering a campaign to encourage new generation entrepreneurs aged 30-40 to develop Surin province ahead of the start of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) next year.

NBTC will not pay RS

BANGKOK: - The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission Sunday backtracked from compensating RS for free broadcasts of all World Cup matches, saying it will subsidise only Channels 5.

Takorn Tantasith, secretary-general of the NBTC, Sunday told a seminar on media freedom and responsibility at the Thai Journalists Association that the payments will not exceed Bt427 million.

On June 12, the day the World Cup kicked off, the NBTC decided to pay RS, the local rights holder, Bt427 million for opportunity losses in allowing all freetoair, cable and satellite TV operators to telecast all 64 matches nationwide.

The money would come from the Research and Development Fund for Broadcasting and Telecommunications Services, it said.

Police say several violent incidents linked to UDD

BANGKOK: -- Several of the violent incidents committed against protesters of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee during the six-month since last November were linked to members of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship, said Pol Gen Aek Angsananont, deputy national police chief, today (Sunday).

About 565 million baht worth of assets were seized from suspected drug traffickers in eight northern provinces in the past eight months, said Pol Gen Pongsapat Pongcharoen, secretary-general of the Office of Narcotics Control Board, on Sunday.
Altogether 1,404 items of movable and immovable assets were seized among them were cars, motorcycles, gold ornaments, land title deeds, cash, houses, communications gears and bank accounts.

Pol Gen Pongsapat said that of all the cases handled by the ONCB during the past eight months, there were 11 major cases whose seized assets worth more than 100 baht for each of the cases.

He cited the cases of Mrs Suchada Tueypa or Jeh Pen, more than 200 baht worth of assets, mostly land plots in Kanchanaburi, were seized from her and also the case of Mrs Manee Kampeera in Mae Sod whose assets worth more than 200 million baht were seized.
