karenmw460 Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Anyone else using an HDMI switch with True Visions cable tv, or with knowledge of this subject who could help me please? I have True visions and also Thai Expat Tv, which are both connected by an HDMI switch as my tv has only one HDMI port. Until this week we had true satellite, but due to signal quality issues, we changed to True cable. Until the change from satellite to cable both services (true and expat tv) were working fine with the HDMI switch. But, the true cable set top box will not work with the HDMI switch. I get a blank screen and "mode not supported" Can anyone advise how I can solve this problem as currently I have to transfer the HDMI cable from one set top box to the other manually - which is a pain
Crossy Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 "Mode not supported" suggests that the TV is getting a signal outside its specified range. Since the TV works when plugged directly to the cable box (it does does it not?), is the switcher doing any transcoding, up sampling or something like that? Perhaps you could let us know the switcher spec. (make model number etc.). I'm just throwing ideas in here as I don't really know what's going on. Does the cable box have a menu to adjust the resolution? Try something lower than it's set to, something other than 'auto'. Have you tried the cable box in all switcher inputs? Tried a different cable?
karenmw460 Posted June 26, 2014 Author Posted June 26, 2014 Hi, thanks for the reply Yes, the tv works when plugged directly into the cable box Yes, tried a different cable, and tried the cable box in all switcher inputs but no success The switcher doesn't have any brand or model number on it. I bought it at paradise park IT section. I'm happy to buy a more expensive, better quality one if I knew which one I need to buy to work with the true cable box. Had a look at the resolution settings on the cable box as you suggested. It was set at 720p. If I set it higher or lower, then the cable seems to be working with the switcher, but the cable input does not fill the Tv screen. Ie section of blank screen at either side of tv picture. I forget to mention earlier, that this morning I unplugged the HDMI cable from the cable box and then plugged it in again, and the cable tv worked with the tv(whilst connected to the switcher ), but when I changed to Thai Expat Tv, and then changed back to true cable, it was no longer working and saying mode not supported again!
RichCor Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 What happens if you switch to the Cable Box and quickly power-cycle the TV (Off/On). Sometimes the TV doesn't like the initial signal after a switch occurs and decides to sulk. Power cycling the TV slaps it's behind. If this works then I doubt any other low/medium cost switch will work as they don't 'manage' the signal. A pro HDMI home Media/Amplifier might, though. No guarantee. 1
IMHO Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 My guess is the switcher does not support HDCP, which TrueVisions uses to stop recording of their media.
karenmw460 Posted June 27, 2014 Author Posted June 27, 2014 Thanks got the suggestions/advice. Power cycling the TV didn't seem to help. I guess I will have to look for a switcher which supports HDCP
