Songkhla blanketed in smoke due to Indonesian forest fires

SONGKHLA, 27 June 2014 (NNT) - Smoke from forest fires in Indonesia have started to cover Song Khla, especially over the sea, mountains and town. It is not posing any health risk so far, but Songkhla's Disease Control and Prevention Office 16 is watching the situation closely.

Songkhla and other several provinces in the lower South have been blanketed in a thick cloud of smoke as a result of raging forest fires in Indonesia after the southwest monsoon covering the Andaman, Southern Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand pushed smoke over lower Southern Thailand. In Songkhla, smoke is now covering the mountains, seas and town. Fishermen are being warned to be more careful when sailing.

According to Songkhla's Disease Control and Prevention Office 16, the fine-particle dust level has so far remained within the safe limits and will not pose health risk to the public. Even though there have reportedly been only 37 fire outbreaks in Indonesia, Songkhla's Disease Control and Prevention Office 16 will remain on alert and will cooperate with relevant organizations and be prepared for any serious incident.

Might be pollution, because the smoke come from abroad...

Maybe the smoke and air pollution overfly Malaysia which is located between Songklah and Indonesia???? facepalm.gif

Strange, I'm sitting in sunny Songkhla right now and it's just that - sunny and clear, same as it has been all week.

Maybe they finally ran out of forest to burn.

They stated it was fires, did you not read?

There are some hotspots in Malaysia and Thailand but the bulk of it are from Indonesia. This is the annual crap from the Indons, still slashing and burning their plantations. Thank you for being great neighbours, y'all. And I hope the plantation owners - some apparently owned by Malaysians, get a good dose of their own crap soon.

Indeed, this was something of a nonsense. I saw this thread yesterday whilst still in Bangkok with the wife so checked with mother-in-law yesterday, my wife is asthmatic so was considering postponing our return to Hat Yai. Mum said everything was fine and clear in Hat Yai yesterday so we flew down today as planned and nothing - clear skies as we flew over Songkhla and landed at Hat Yai.

I suggest a Mod change the title of this thread to

"Songkhla not blanketed in smoke due to Indonesian forest fires"

We went to the hill near Hatyai and the odour of smoke was conspicuous, and the smoke was even visible from there. Strangely, in the town there was nothing noticeable.

Well yesterday's rain and by the look of it plenty more this afternoon should help clean things up nicely.
