Newly-opened service centers for migrant labour registration bustling with activity

PNSOC570628001000201_28062014_115723.jpg

CHANTHABURI, 28 June 2014 (NNT) – The newly-opened one-stop service centers for migrant labour registration were bustling with activity on Friday, the second day of operation for the said centers in Sa Kaew, Trat and Chanthaburi.

Hundreds of Cambodian workers registered to return to work in Thailand at the one-stop centers at Ban Laem and Ban Phakkat border points in Chanthaburi, accompanied by their employers. The Pong Namron district office was lending I.D. card machines to the one-stop centers, allowing the card-making process to be cut down to just 10 minutes per person.

Chanthaburi governor Samat Loifa indicated that the province held an advantage by having two of the service centers. He said that employers in other provinces, including Bangkok, may bring their workers to be registered in Chanthaburi because of the greater convenience.

In Trat, scores of employers were filing the number of workers hired with the Trat employment office. Those who did so were handed appointment dates to come back with the workers to receive temporary work certificates. The work certificates may then be processed into work permits at a later date. The returning migrant workers will need either their passport or border pass during the process to produce their I.D. cards.

Officials confiscate processed logs of wood in Burirum

BURIRUM, 28 June 2014, (NNT) - Officials have confiscated several processed logs of different kinds of wood after inspecting a house belonging to the head of Nongbuarai Village in Prakonchai District of Buriram Province.

The village head is Mr. Sum-ang Pitaksa. A representative of the combined force of military, police and administrative officers said that the logs were found in the back yard of the residence and hidden in a eucalyptus forest near the village.

Mr. Sum-ang told the authorities that all of the logs are owned by Mr. Poomsit Maprajong. The village head defended himself, saying that he had been hired by Mr. Poomsit to process the timber without any knowledge of where the man had acquired the logs.

Mr. Poomsit subsequently presented an ownership document to the officials to demonstrate his innocence. Officials have now seized the logs for further investigation but have yet to press any charges.
