BANGKOK: -- Hundred of thousands of Spanish netizens have signed onto a campaign urging Thailand to release “Yuyee,” a former Thai model and wife of a Spanish TV host.

Two weeks after Chatchaya “Yuyee” Cuesta Ramos was sentenced to 15 years in prison for smuggling 250 milligrams of cocaine through Don Mueang Airport two years ago, more than 250,000 signatures have been collected on online petitions “freeyuyee” and “justice4yuyee.”

At the heart of their campaign are questions about the Thai justice system’s handling of her case.

15 years for not even a proper line....

This country really makes me sad sometimes :´(

IMHO it is a good thing Senora Cuesta-Ramos is getting the publicity as the punishment certainly doesn't fit the crime.

I wonder if Spain was still in the world cup that the Spaniards would be interested in the plight of Yuyee. laugh.png

But in all seriousness she is being played for something else that we are unaware of. It is the only way I can see such a harsh penalty being applied to such a minuscule crime.

Absolutely RC, there are a number of other things which closely haven't been taken into consideration. This punishment is absolutely ridiculous, and show what a farce the drug laws are here, not just in Thailand but in SEA. This was certainly not a case of trafficking.

She smuggled it 2 years ago? w00t.gif That's not what we were informed.

Good luck Spaniards, but you're part of the EU. Thailand doesn't give a crock about EU opinion, until it needs to respond to it!

Sad she had to go down the drugy use route. Good life that was not enough. sad.png

The former model was arrested on November 10, 2012, when immigration police reported that they had been tipped off that Ms Yu-Yee was carrying drugs into Thailand through Don Mueang International Airport.

"The suspect claimed the was given the tube of chocolate by a passenger on the plane during her flight back from Vietnam, adding that she had no idea that the tube was filled with cocaine."

That's from the MCOT article about the sentencing on June 20th. Unclear is what type of endangered animals she was trying to smuggle into the country, a feat 'earning' her another 3 months.

15 years jail sentence was not for the 0.25 gr drug smuggling. Its completely insane.

The judge get mad at her, because as a beautiful supermodel, why she did married a foreigner ? Why she didnt become the mia noi

of a rich thai? 15 years to teach her a lesson.

Im wondering who tipped her off?

Do you mean who shopped her, ratted her out, spilt the beans, did the dirty on her?

Someone tipped off the authorities anyway.

maybe the sentences given to her should have been switched. 3 months makes more sense for 5- 251 milligrams! there is doubt as to what the amount of the drug in her possession really was.

maybe the unspoken bribe at the police stations? It's quite common for professional smugglers.

Yes it is very sad that she went down this route and certainly deserves condemnation. But for the miniscule amount which she was caught with, the sentence is senselessly out of proportion. She has suffered enough ignonimity and shame and should be allowed to go home and repair her damaged life.

Unless there is more to the story which we do not know about, the judge who sentenced her should be hauled up.

I just found an article from the BangkokPost of 2012-11-12 saying Ms. Yuyee had 5mg in her purse and said she used it in Vietnam, only had it for her on use.

The 'endangered species' parts was said to relate to a raid on her house in Bangkok in June 2012 with various animals and birds found, some endangered species. The article has Ms. Yuyee saying she cared for them to later release them in the wild.

'Down the drugy use route' ...what does that mean?

Oh, you mean doing some drugs for recreation? People have been doing such things since people first existed, about 270,000 years ago.

Does 'drugy use route' apply to the use of the most harmful drug also? Of course, I'm referring to the drug that lawmakers and law enforcers use; alcohol.

  • Popular Post

I dont use drugs. But if I did I wouldnt be stupid enough to use them in a foreign country with very strict penalties for anything drug related.

She got what she deserved.

By a punch of pesky Farang protesting, hopefully the authorities dig their heels in and make her see out her full sentence.

What different does it make 0.25 gram to 1 kg? druggy is a druggy, since when our society become

so merciful on drug curriers, smugglers and users? I'm sure that if she could lay her hand on a much

larger amount of drugs would she take them? of course she would ! and where dose it says that's it's

ok to use drugs, or little drugs or just for fun drugs? where????

simple, if you don't want to see the inside of a jail cell don't do drugs, and if you do, expect the worst,

In my opinion, too many bleeding hearts are out there pitying and feeling sorry about people who

abuse and deal drugs and other vises,

Good points.

At the end of the day she imported drugs (doesn't matter what amount) and she got what she deserved.

"Sorry sir...it's only a small amount" doesn't really cut it
