Finally A Non-Annoying Advertising Truck

Featured Replies

Driving around town currently are a pair of trucks advertising for the Pattaya Sheep Farm amusement park for kids. They are blaring out a loud and cute rendition of the "Old MacDonald Had A Farm" ditty and for once I was sad to see them fade off into the distance. I was kinda surprised anyone in Thailand even knew of this song...brought back some happy childhood memories.

What Thai business man thought that hiring a van/driver then driving about wasting fuel all day would increase sales?

Nobody walks in Thailand so the most exposure you could hope for would be a snippet of noise from the van's speakers as you whisk passed on a motorbike.

The 'Old Macdonald had a farm' ditty means zilch to the Thai-in-the-street except if he's looking for a burger.

OP wasn't praising the effectiveness or the lack thereof of this advertising truck. He was merely saying that this truck with its song surprised him and made him feel good. Some other obviously haven't seen a truck or anything else for that matters which makes them feel not-annoyed for too long ...

Thank you Mr Ticklish. OMG did point out the vans were 'blaring' & 'loud'. Whatever the 'cute' tune, inflicting this on would-be customers is a pointless exercise in energy wastefulness designed more to alienate the public than increase interest in the advertised product.

Yet here we are, posting about the truck advertising the Pattaya Sheep Farm on an expat forum frequented by tourists...with sweaty tourist cash.

I think you might be underestimating the use of this tune in Thai and International nurseries here as a teaching tool. But anything that brings back nice memories in even one person has a certain validity. The advertising value may be minimal but the doing of what is expected in local promotion terms via a van (and the owner's self worth that this creates) outweighs that, no doubt.
