Not Thailand related exactly, but it is interesting to see that the Philippines pretty much mirrors Thailand in xenophobic real estate laws for foreigners. Foreigners there can buy 40 percent of condos in a building, but to own a house must have a majority owned Pinoy corporation. Sound familiar? Having known countless Pinoys in the US who buy houses like mad there, tis a bit ironic:

I am interested to read that putting the property in your wife's name can lead to difficulties on divorce! What divorce? :o

Leases for foreigners are 50 years, and the foreigner's name can be put on the contract, but not the title, thus allowing inheritance on death of the wife. However the property must be sold.
