Frenchman dies after collision with foundation pillar of Airport Rail Link in Bangkok

Probably a cell phone picture from one of the rubberneckers standing around...notice no one is attempting to help/comfort the guy...but maybe all the bystanders were doctors and knew the poor soul was definitely dead so no need to comfort. RIP

Pip, read before you open your mouth, it said he died later, must have been alive and died later after the collision or in the hospital.

Shaurene, Please tell me when the picture was taken...while dying or after dead. And since you read the article so well, please show me where it says "he died later." The article only says, "At the incident near Hua Mak railway station the officers found the corpse of... which indicates he was dead by the time the BIB arrived.

Did he die instantly or X-minutes later...who knows from the article. If still alive the bystanders could have least put a cover over part of his body to help keep him warm...help prevent shock...no need to move him to prevent possibly hurting him more, but at least provide some comfort by showing another human being is trying to help/comfort instead of standing at distance rubber-necking/taking pictures.

I'm surprised that the mobile phone, car driving license, wallet, a remote key for a Nissan car, his room key and some other documents were still there.

Yes yes yes... He drove at high speed straight away into the pillar alone...maybe after the phone call he wanted to suicide!! Those "investigations" by the "police" are done very quickly in order to close the case and avoid more work, it's a farang after all! The fact that the accident has been caused by a third party vehicle is not taken in account nor investigate.

It only took 4 post

I was wondering how they knew he was arguing with someone on the phone prior. It isn't mentioned. Perhaps they called back the last number. Mentioning how they 'perceived' this would help us not believe it was simply speculation.

No woman is worth losing your life over because of an argument. There are plenty of fish in the sea. Think before you drink, before you jump, before you drive, before you ride. Drown your sorrows and think to the future when the next lovely lady puts her arm around yours.

It’s believed that Mr Pierre was arguing with someone on the phone and when he hung up he was very angry and accelerated away at high speed colliding with the foundation pillar of the airport rail link severely injuring him causing him to die later.

What a dreadful piece of speculation. Even if it is correct - and how on earth does anyone know, other than by asking the dead man's wife - its tactless publication can only produce guilt in the poor woman and add needlessly to her suffering.

As with the use of the picture of the destroyed motorcycle surrounded by gormless rubberneckers, this is yet another example of the thoughtless and irresponsible journalism that is characteristic of the Thai media generally and newspapers

in particular.

Do they have a Press watchdog here, apart from the generals? If so, it's time it started biting - hard.

You haven't been here long, have you.

Why is the sidestand still down? Normally this would kill the engine.

Disregard the 'third party' vehicle and suicide attempt theories. Anyone who has driven at reasonable speed with the kick-stand down knows what can happen when you lean into a turn. Now imagine it happening at high speed.

No, they don't kill the engine either, normally or otherwise.

Had to be a 3rd party vehicle driven by a Thai that 'caused the accident.

Farang never make a mistake in Thailandwink.png

Right! coffee1.gif Some farang idiots on motorbikes are more arrogant, etc. than some Thai idiots on motorbikes. sad.png One might wonder what category this farang was in, seeing as how he managed to speed into a very large pillar so fast that he killed himself. I wonder if the autopsy will show alcohol or drugs. sad.png

On my Honda 125 Racer, when the side stand is put down, it does kill the engine. My thought is that perhaps this guy hit the pillar so hard that the sudden stop lowered the side stand. However, it's just a theory, which I do not plan to test. bah.gif

A lot of bikes have an inhibitor switch that operates when the stand is down. Should be compulsory IMO.

at 12.00 p.m., Pol.Lt. Pheerachet Sawang-ar-rom (Inquiry official of Hua Mak police station) was notified that there was an accident

I do not understand why it should be important to name the police officer, when he was notified (and that he or he and officers x an y rushed to the scene as in many other reports)

I find this quite common here.

Just reporting the incident would do very well

Firstly, very sad for his family irrespective of the 'why's and wherefores'.

Secondly, yes sweatalot, I have often wondered why the authorities are named. Is it perhaps they are publicly accountable, or maybe there is prestige attached to be an investigative office?

I am advised that there is prestige within your own station but also this is considered when in line for a promotion

I am advised that your moniker simply being recorded is not enough. It's part of why police pose for those dreadful shots with suspects for local and national newspapers.
