Roi Et initiates its own cradle-to-grave welfare system

Roi Et has already set up a cradle-to-grave welfare system in 17 tambon.

Deputy governor Amorn Wetchakanwitthaya (อมร เวชการวิทยา) said all those 17 tambon are operating welfare funds set up with starting budget of 1.4 million baht.

Members of the funds are committed to deposit money with the funds every month to be entitled to benefits, Mr. Amorn said.

Members will be given 500 baht as a gift for their new-born babies, 100 baht a night if they are admitted in a hospital, 2,000 baht if their houses are damaged by a fire and death benefits of no fewer than 2,500 baht, he said.

Good luck with this....I wonder if they have access to an actuary to make sure that their plan is statistically sound?...I doubt it. When all of the money is gone do you think there will be an accurate accounting of where it all went?

2.500 Baht (about 30 quid!)............... and somebody on another thread said life isn't cheap in Thailand. :D:D Don't think that would even cover the cheapest coffin? :D

Anyone notice the irony in the title? "Cradle-to-mortuary" might have been more on the mark. :o
