Editors good a good job picking noteworthy subjects.

Nevertheless, to get a real feeling what is happening in the country a condensed summery of new laws, regulations would be much appreciated. I hope I am not the only one with the need for more info.

Well, every night long commands are running on TV. Not worth a brief explanation?

I think the word you are looking for is rumors not commands.

No, I want to hear in clear language what the military is saying, unfiltered. There should be nothing wrong about this.

Nothing has changed. What are you hearing about new laws? I haven't heard of any. I know you are trying to make a mountain out of a molehill but ....... Exaggeration and rumor does not last long in the cold light of day.

and the long running scripts by the military late in the evening? Empty words in Thai?

They do have English sub-titles

The Military Government are not authorized to pass any new laws. That can only be done by the Senate upon Royal Approval.

The only laws that can be passed now are temporary emergency laws mostly to maintain law and order i.e. the curfew, demonstrations etc.

There seems like new laws are being passed but that is not the case it is just proper enforcement of existing laws.

What you see on the TV is the Military explaining what they have done, why they will do and why they are doing it. i.e. being transparent.

Thanks ATF that is helpful. I thought it more of instructions on the issues it is tackling. In other words not laws but orders one better complies with.

You make it sound very onerous, "orders one better complies with." I thought if it more as informing the population that they have transferred an officer to another post. The immigration banning thing for overstay is only a suggestion given to the ministry of the interior and there is also thinking that the ministry of interior will no longer be in charge of immigration I read in the large volume of rumors now circulating.

Seems to me everyone wants to be first on the street with the new rumors rather than wait for facts.

The way I understand it, the man is insisting on already existing laws and regulations being applied. The way laws are executed (regulations) can always be tinkered with. Just doing this is causing tremendous resistance. Farangs think that the application of already existing regulations is directed at them.

Farangs, from his point of view, are a small part of the problems in Thailand apart from the fact that they have led to many Immigration Police becoming corrupt and thereby obliging their bosses to make things more and more complicated to get an extension.

May I suggest that you watch the transmission on Thai TV every Friday at (I think) 20.00? The man speaks from a teleprompter I think but he has his thoughts and ideas very much together. He explains that he needs time to get things into place, and that the last thing that they need is anti government propaganda that might lead to unrest (that is why the army took over on 22 May, we would have had red and yellow shirts PLUS the farmers, all hating each other, still in Bangkok). This is accompanied by quite well done subtitles, just find a station that doesn't plonk their insignia over the bottom half of the screen. Chain number 7 on our TV.

Dont worry ,Ve have vays of making you falangs complysmile.png

Ach so, very interesting, now where did I put my german-army hat ? rolleyes.gif (with a nod towards Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In)

Regarding the thread-topic, I get the impression that the military are generally trying to enforce more existing laws, which have fallen into general disuse, rather than announcing very much new. But I could be wrong.

The TV broadcast is helpful.

No, I am not in the least worried about impact on us Farang. I want to understand what is affecting the Thai society.

My Thai will never be good enough.
