Noob Question - Wanting to take my wife to visit my folks

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have searched the forum but am still a bit confused, I think its the family visa I am looking at but not fully sure if my wife will qualify for it. Apologies if this has been covered alot and thanks in advance for any help,

My wife and I have been together coming up to 2 years and been married 6 months, our first baby is due in January.

I want to take my wife and the baby to see my parents shortly after the baby is born to visit the UK for one month and see family/friends.

My wife currently works in real estate (selling condo`s) for a reputable company yet will be quitting her job fairly soon due to being heavily pregnant therefore will have 0 recordable income at the time of the application, she does have land and some savings, however from what I can see there is no financial requirements for a family visa?

I will be paying for flights for the baby and her, I am not a house owner however my mother is and we will be staying there.

I am wondering from the requirements, will my wife be eligible for the family visa? I am 99% sure I have no requirements to pass and from what I can see money in a Thai bank account is not needed, I am a British citizen with a full UK passport.

Thanks again

An important point to note for visas - if there are no rules that preclude the applicant then go for it.  Just make sure of a thorough job and well researched.

Cheers mate, going to print off this form tomorrow https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/255356/vaf1b.pdf

I will have a good scan through it, I actually thought the whole visa thing was alot more complicated and required bundles of disposable cash in Thai bank accounts! seems visiting the folks wont be such a ball ache as I first thought. I will be taking my wife at the coldest possible month just to see her face in the harsh -5 British winter.

Really though, I cannot see any reasons why we should get rejected, I am now excited to get the ball rolling.

Thanks for your reply wooloomooloo

The only difference between a Family Visa and standard Visit Visa is that a Family Visa is aimed at those visiting the UK or travelling with a UK family member, whilst anybody can apply for a visit visa, the burden of proof is the same. A family visa used to have the right of appeal, but the Government removed that right.

All your wife has to prove is that the visit is genuine, affordable and that, on the balance of probability she will return home at the conclusion of her visit. There are no financial requirements but, as I say, she does have to satisfy the ECO of the trips affordability.

There is no need to have bundles of cash and neither does it need to be in a Thai bank, my funds are in a IOM bank in a joint account. The most important thing is proving the reason to return.

Do make sure your child gets a UK Passport, this is probably the longest part of your travel plans.
