Free program for watching movies on Tv from Computer

Featured Replies

There are several ways of watching movies that are downloaded on your computer on the television.

Seems most popular for smart TV's that have USB slot is the memmory stick. Download a movie on your computer to the memmory stick then plug it into the Tv and away you go. It's what I do

.

Samsung have a progrm called AllShare that has all sorts of settings for watching movies from your computer but I could never get on with that program. Too complicated setting up and supposidly does a lot of fancy things that I don't want or need.

Came across a free program called Serviio that is simple to set up and use. I managed it so it has got to be simple.

My Tv is connected by LAN cable via modem/router to my homenetwork so the computer sees the Tv and the Tv sees the computer.

I selected the folder "BBC Torrents" that I want to share with Serviio and checked that the Samsung Tv was showing on the status page and that was It. I can now watch all the programs in "BBC Torrents" on the Tv. AND the folder is automatically updated as more file are downloaded.

Serviio supports a wide selection of Tv's Xbox and Android phones.
Works with Windows, Mac and Linux.
Streams audio, video (SD & HD) and image files in their native format or transcoded in real-time
Streams content from online sources, like RSS feeds, live audio/video streams, web page content.
Lots of info on their website.

As I said I have a LAN connection, don't know if wireless is possible.

The program is FREE though the download is 15 day Evaluation of the Pro Edition after which Serviio automatically reverts to the Free edition.

Just thought I'd share.

The new Samsung TVs seem to accept every kind of video and audio, very nice. Plus mine has 4 USB slots, so I can keep all my exercise and yoga vids on one usb and don't have to keep taking it in and out.

Still, the Samsung 'smart' TVs are still 'retarded' compared to my Apple TV box. The two together plus USB slots is all I need.

Connect the TV via an HDMI cable, put it as a second monitor and Bob's yer uncle. (Who is Bob?)

I just go to one of the movie streaming websites and

stream from there, through my pc to Tv via an HDMI

cable,in real time.example Solar movies.
