PHUKET: -- Thalang police are looking for a gunman who shot a man with a homemade shotgun pistol at a shack near a rubber plantation near Wat Tha Reua this morning.

The victim died of wounds to his shoulder.

Lt Col Viwat Chamnangit told The Phuket News, “There was heavy rain when we got to the soi and the water was up to thigh level, which made it hard for us to reach the shack, about two kilometres from the main road.”

As a result, police waited for Kusoldharm rescue workers to bring out the body of the victim, identified as Samingdum Polwong, 32, from Mukdahan.

“He was hit in the left shoulder with nine shotgun pellets fired from a homemade gun,” Col Viwat said after questioning a woman who said she was the girlfriend of the shooter.

She told the police that Mr Samingdum and the shooter, named as Ongart Meetab, had argued fiercely after drinking rice spirit.

“Mr Samingdum spat at Ongart so Ongart then shot him. After Ongart saw what he had done, he tried to carry Mr Samingdum to hospital but it was too late,” Col Viwat explained.

Realising that he had killed his friend, Ongart ran away.

“It won’t be hard to arrest him,” Col Viwat said. “He has been arrested by Phuket City Police before, so we have all his details.”

An alert has gone out to all police stations to keep a lookout for Ongart.

Not necessarily...a close shot with one of those 12 gauge zip guns will cause incredible amount of damage, especially on your left side. It only takes one of those 9 buckshot pellets to hit your aorta or major vessel on that side and you are done. That is a huge wound inside that is not easily fixed.

Punch a hole in the Brachial artery and you'll bleed out quicker than it takes someone to carry you two kilometres + the time it took for the medics to be called and get there (unless you have proper medical attention, which is unlikely to be provided by your pished mate who's just shot you).

Possibly a good question if it didn't seem that you think this only applies to Thailand ... of course a fair number of criminals arrive at Suvarnabhumi from Europe, USA, Australia. One can only wonder why they aren't safely tucked away in prisons in those countries.

I assume in your country all the criminals are incarcerated and the police are no longer needed??

Chances are he died from blood loss and as such the delay caused by the RTP hanging around for the emergency services may well have been a contributory factor in his death. Hope there are ashamed of their indifference. Perhaps too much to hope for here.

They didn't state the 'shot size'. If it was buckshot, that'd tell me it made hamburger of his left shoulder and the guy bled out. Lot's of arteries in that area.

Drunken argument shooter found and arrested in Phuket

Ongart Meetab, responsible for shooting Samingdam Polwong, was found and arrested last night (September 9).

PHUKET: -- Thalang police found and arrested the gunman who shot a man with a homemade shotgun pistol near a rubber plantation near Wat Tha Reua yesterday morning (September 9).

At 7.30pm Thalang police led a team of officers to arrest the suspect, Ongart Meetab, 37, after receiving a court order for his arrest.

The suspect was hiding out in a house in Wichit and after police questioned him, he admitted to shooting the victim, Samingdam Polwong, 32, after arguing fiercely yesterday morning.

Ongart was taken to Thalang police station and later charged with first degree murder, illegal possession of firearm, and carrying a firearm in public without a permit.

Yes, I have seen a 12G homemade pistol here before. Crude weapon but could do a lot of damage at close range. Better have a good grip if ur shooting it.

If I was Thai I would search my friends before drinking with them. Seems almost mandatory for Thai men to bring a gun or knife when they go drinking

They didn't state the 'shot size'. If it was buckshot, that'd tell me it made hamburger of his left shoulder and the guy bled out. Lot's of arteries in that area.

If it was 9 pellets it would be a 2 3/4 inch 00 Cartridge approximately equivalent to being hit by nine 9mm bullets at the same time. Depending on the design spread of the cartridge it could easily make a hole the size of a tennis ball at close range. Easily capable of decapitating someone or completely removing their arm.
