Installing Used AC

Featured Replies

A friend is selling me an AC unit that was purchased new and used for a few months. He replaced because it was too small. It's been sitting in an empty room for a year or so. My question is whether there was some way it needed to be stored or if it is OK just sitting in parts?

Is it true that a simple installation including gas on a 10000 BTU AC should be around 2000 baht.

Thanks.

If it's been sitting for a year, you will want to have them check if it needs cleaning and which will probably be up to B500 more for that. Otherwise, B2000 sounds about right for a simple install if not much travel involved.

The price you mention could be correct, if the electricity supply is near where the compressor is going to be located. Look for proper drainage options. It could depend on what "gas" they use for that model. I bought a used small Samsung a/c unit from a fellow expat who was in a hurry to depart Thailand. That unit was installed 6 years ago and still works fine, but I do pay 300 baht every year to have it cleaned.

The installation cost will depend on where it will be located and the distance from the inside unit to the compressor. They most likely will have to run new copper tubing and it's not cheap. Also the electric should be on a separate circuit and they will have to run wire to the CU and install a new breaker unless you are going to have it connected to an existing circuit, not recommended. If you can get it done for 2000 baht that would be great, but I think that it will cost more to have a reliable and safe installation.

It also should be properly cleaned to get maximum efficiency.
