I will venture and say that 9 out of ten rich Burmese here in Thailand or in the borders

area has to come from drug dealing or something connected to the drug industry, and

if I were the government, I'd check each and evry one of them for the origin of their wealth...

groan... more wasted money and resources on a failed and hopeless "war". Catch one, and watch another take his place. It's depressing.

The drug industry is one of the biggest industries in the world, and yet it is completely unregulated by government, and run wholly by criminals. Incredible but true.

Saw plenty of Military cars and trucks at the Sisaket prison last week. Just wondering what they're looking for? Maybe cookies? cheesy.gif

They could dramitically slow the trade in its tracks by making the drugs legal and all of a sudden the price would go thru the floor and be way less attractive a business...

At last just maybe they are finally getting some of the big boys. One down dozens more to go.

Yet supposed big boy girl "Sor Ming" (Mrs Pornkamol Saengliew) remains free.

The operation, launched by deputy police chief Pongsapat Pongcharoen, followed the arrest of Mrs Pornkamol, a major drug dealer, at her house in Soi Phetkasem 36 on Monday night.

Legalizing, regulating, taxing and educating would get rid of the criminal element and also the fact that drugs being illegal makes them more "glamorous". Kids love to rebel.

Prohibition never worked, and never will. It's human nature.

Where did it say that? The article in the initial post (as well as on the linked page on the Thai PBS web site) do not mention any arrest of Mrs Pornkamol, only arrest of the Burmese national and assets seized. You'd think that if there was actually an arrest of the "mastermind" then the article would clearly mention it as a key point.

Could be a bit more serious than OJ's cookie run. A couple years back they busted a drug ring operating from inside a prison who had 350 million in the bank.

So you're saying they should not do anything because it doesn't make any difference? Is that your solution?

Well there are some of the big fish (Croccidiles) we were waiting for
Well done guys

Really small fish compared to major cartels, and all the dope operations by the likes of the CIA..

So you believe the Hollywood versions of the CIA and the drug trade? Is your vast knowledge of the CIA based on Mel Gibson and the movie "Air America"? That movie did not follow the book in regards to drug trafficking. It is Hollywood hype. General Vang Pao is said to have used drug sales to arm his Hmong Army, and maybe the CIA looked the other way, but in my time at Air America (The real one) I never saw or heard of any involvement in drugs. You make it sound like it is a major source of funding for the CIA. If you think logically about it the CIA has an unlimited budget and it doesn't make sense to involve in drugs.

Great place to hide your drugs: inside a crocodile !

A crocodile farm! Now that is a great front to launder money. Of course as long as the banks are happy to accept deposits and not ask too many questions they, the bankers, will permit the trade to continue. And even the CIA conspiracy advocates should be looking at the banking sector and not insignificant players line Vang Pao.
