Terrified Briton flees Koh Tao after 'mafia' death threat

Whatever the motives and possible overreaction shown by Sean Mcanna he's really only said out loud and very publicly what a great many people strongly believe to be true.

He has wiped and pretty much shut down his FB and Twitter. whether that's out of respect/embarrassment or self interest on the back of his new found notoriety I have no idea.

He may have read more into his exchange with the bar guys than was actually said but why did they follow him to that store at such an hour? He's really only said they know who did it and as most on here believe pretty much everyone living on that Island knows likewise (but isn't saying) the only difference is that he has brought it loudly to the attention of the International media.

As I posted here elsewhere he may be an attention seeking prat but it doesn't beggar belief that he would have made an excellent fall guy.

The Daily Mirror stated that there is a "lot more story" here but so far they have not put anything further out. Either they are still developing it or there are some problems with it.

I'd put my money on the latter. Yesterday it sounded plausible but as more information has trickled out it looks like Sean has been a very silly boy.

What information would that be?

Basically it says they arrested the younger brother of a well known figure on Koh Tao, and another suspect has run away to Bangkok.

Someone translate.

It says 1 arrested and 1 run away to bkk.

Thank you. if this is true and followed by convictions then perhaps the winds of change for the better really are blowing at last. David and Hannah. RIP.

Sean McAnna story doesn't add up.

He could kill out of jealousy; that's just my theory.

He coincidently returned to this Island on the Day the murders happened .

Lots of question marks.

He has child porn convictions to boot.

Looking worse by the second

But wasn't "the guitarman" cleared by the DNA test? Also, that would contradict the DNA test saying that the semen found was from asian man, of course unless an asian man raped her and Sean decided to kill her after that, or could also be possible that Sean and asian man did it together.

I just wonder what it is about his story that doesn't really add up?

Elaborate please Mr Flintstone. Maybe Sean is actually the DON, and he had planted DNA samples of an Asian, to take the heat off him, yeah, its all coming together

Any comment on his prior convictions for child porn or is that something you wish wasn't raised about Sean?

The final paragraph in that Thai Rath article contains a statement by Bannya:

"I'd like everyone to have confidence in the work of the police. We will absolutely not catch a scapegoat. This case has the attention of the whole world. The police are working very hard to ensure that we have solid and irrefutable evidence against these suspects, especially because society is worried that local influential people will obstruct the investigation. Please be confident that we won't allow any powerful people to be an obstacle to the police and that we will clear this case quickly."

Edits and improvements on my translation are welcome.

There's several hundred tourists arrive on Kho Tao daily, and there's usually quite a few "Asians: amongst them.. how's that for a coincidence?

There: http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/one-tourist-murder-suspect-now-arrested-another-run/

That part is scary: "The southern police chief also assured the public that there was no arrest of scapegoats in this murder case as it now is a focal attention of the world." ....

that tells you how big this case is outside of THAILAND and how many are looking for justice and a lot will be researching before venturing to THAILAND

If the crime is solved arresting the real perpetrators then it will go a long way helping tourism

If it solves the mafia then even better

Interesting how many 'first-time' posters there seem to be on this thread.....

Yes, that suggests, if it had not been such public case, a scapegoat would have done nicely

In the initial reports Sean only stated that the local mafia chased him without elaborating that he had gone into a bar and drunkenly accused the bar owner of rape and murder without a shred of proof. Later all his posts or accounts are deleted. It must have been the local mafia that forced him to delete those.

Things just don't add up with his timeline of events or accusations.

I hope so.

Anyone who has spent time on Ko Tao will understand why this case has such importance.

Hopefully these latest developments of an arrest and confirmed fleeing will produce the truth for the sake the families.

and 50 seconds in 2 thai men approach the driver of the taxi, 1 seemed to have an iron bar over his shoulder........did they just miss him?

that interview seemed as genuine as all the girls outside bars telling me they love me. if i had to hide in a supermarket in fear of my life i wouldnt be filmed walking to a ferry with a £30 guitar under my arm and hugging people goodbye.........id be on anything that floats (including the guitar) with nothing more than a passport and out of there.
