It makes plenty of sense to take B12 shots as you age. When you get older, you may be eating what seem to be sufficient amount of B12, but the gut in aging people becomes less efficient in utilizing it. Vitamin B12 is primarily absorbed in the small intestine, specifically in the distal ileum, after it binds to a protein called intrinsic factor in the stomach. Older folk don't necessarily absorb it from eating it. Shots are a good prophylaxis. I shoot up a 1ml ampule once a month even though I eat seafood, meats, milk and eggs. If you're uncertain about giving yourself shots, hire a nurse to train you. Or look it up online.
