Sun can be inline with your down-link path and all channels will fail (depending on strength how long) at your single fixed position. But sun can also be in-line with the up-links and not all of them will be from the same position so some will still be good while others will be bad.

We noticed total outage from Thaicom for GMM stations here in Bangkok on early afternoon on Friday th 26th.
