Police assemble before the parade through Patong.

PHUKET: -- Hundreds of Phuket police and security volunteers led by Pol Lt Gen Korkiet Wongworachat,an assistant to the National Police Chief, paraded along Soi Bangla and other parts of Patong on Friday (October 31).

The aim of the parade was to raise confidence among tourists about safety measures during three upcoming events – Loy Krathong, the Asian Beach Games and the tourism high season.

Gen Korkiet said that security is a key factor in attracting tourists to Phuket, and police as well as volunteers are ready to provide it.

“Police must be prepared for any possible incident, ranging from traffic jams to crimes, accidents on land and on the sea, and fires or explosions from fire cracker and lanterns, especially during Loy Krathong.”

Pol Col Peerayuth Karajedee, Deputy Commander of Phuket Police, explained, “At Loy Krathong, people like to light sky lanterns and fireworks, and there are always crowds at the festival music and entertainment venues, which bring problems such as traffic jams, crime and accidents.

“Police will help tourists pouring into popular spots during Loy Krathong by directing traffic and providing information, while also preventing crime and accidents during the crowded high season and the Asian Beach Games.”

I used to love parades when I was a kid.

But, they were much nicer then.

Everyone was smiling with "Happiness" wai2.gifwai.gifbiggrin.png

They really don't get the difference between quantity and quality, do they?

There has and continues to be too much talk about tourist safety on Phuket……they obviously know something that they are not talking about

As for this parade of Muppets, I thought under martial law public gatherings were outlawed giggle.gif

As they were "parading", it would have been a great time to commit a crime. No police anywhere else on the island.

Totally alien thought processes going on here.......

You really have to admire the excellent physique of these fine police officers. I especially noticed their protruding muscles just above the belt.

It is nice to hear that the police will help with traffic jams, because we all know how effective they can be at checking our cars and wallets at checkpoints so the traffic will run smoothly without clogging......

Man....I bet you couldn't find a tout....for the 10 mins before the parade and the 10 mins after. Then all went back to normal rows of shoulder to shoulder sex touts.

A couple of dozen more and the collective IQ might squeeze into double figures.

"...to make tourists feel more safe?" Who comes up with these ideas?

I'd feel the exact opposite. Police presence in tourist areas should always be low-key as it can be off-putting.

Okay, you guys can go back to work now.

Any tourists in evidence will likely wonder what the hell is going on that should require the presence of so many police. The remainder will know nothing about it. And everyone will question what the show of strength will prove worth when push comes to shove.

How many had the obligatory parachute wings on the uniform. ? It certainly seems to be a status symbol here in Patts.

"police in Phuket show of strength"

Did they have tug of war with elephant?

How on earth did they manage to drag this many Officers away from their important "duties" for this photo shoot ? giggle.gif

I thought it was gay pride day and this waste uniform section where are all the flags?
