Can the U.S. Defeat ISIS Without Removing Assad?
Two months into its campaign against the Islamic State, the White House may be rethinking its strategy.
ADAM CHANDLER

WASHINGTON: -- In September, President Obama announced the American campaign to "degrade and ultimately destroy" ISIS, an operation defined in large part by what it wouldn't entail, namely "putting boots on the ground." Two months later, with ISIS stalled but not deterred, the whole American strategy against the militant group may be coming under review.

His Majesty had fever but now is improving

IMG-20141114-122749-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- The Bureau of the Royal Household issued the ninth statement Thursday night saying His Majesty the King has fever and pain in the abdomen from repeated inflammation diverticulitis of the large intestine.

It said the diverticulitis in the large intestine became infected again after a period of improvement, and doctors have advised the change in antibiotics to cure the infection.

The Royal Household Bureau quoted doctors tending His Majesty at Siriraj Hospital as saying that the King’s condition had earlier improved generally, prompting them to stop administering antibiotics.

However, the abdominal pain, fever, and a change in bowel habits returned to His Majesty, causing his breathing and heart beat to go faster.

Chest x-ray on His Majesty showed his lung was functioning normally, however.

The statement said doctors therefore applied a special method of blood tests and inspection of the abdomen using ultrasound and computerised x-ray examination.

Results showed inflammation of a bulging pouch in the large intestine. The doctors then gave him saline solution and new antibiotics intravenously to treat the infection, resulting in his fever gradually returning normal and general condition improving.

Doctors explained that as the diverticulitis which happened from time to time, returned to His Majesty faster than last time, they have advised that His Majesty take the antibiotics intravenously for a longer period under each prescription, the statement said.

His Majesty's condition improves

BANGKOK: -- His Majesty the King's fever has dropped and his general condition is improving, the ninth announcement from the Royal Household Bureau said yesterday.

The monarch was being treated for diverticulitis, and doctors at Siriraj hospital said His Majesty had developed a temperature, discomfort in the stomach and rapid heartbeat from the condition. Upon conducting Xrays, blood tests and ultrasound tests, the doctors found that though His Majesty's lungs were functioning normally, the diverticulitis had returned.

The doctors treated the condition by administering a new medication intravenously until the fever dropped and His Majesty's condition improved.

Since His Majesty was affected by diverticulitis more quickly this time, the doctors have decided to administer the medication for a longer time, the announcement said.
