PM to visit drought-hit areas in NE Region

BANGKOK, 16 Nov 2014, (NNT) - Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha is to visit for the first time drought-hit areas in the Northeastern Region on Wednesday to inspect the officials' drought handling measures.

According to the Prime Minister's Office Spokesperson, Captain Dr. Yongyuth Mayalarp, the PM is to visit the provinces of Khon Kean and Kalasin. The objective of the one-day visit is to inspect the authorities' works regarding the drought-handling measures, which include those carried out by the Ministries of Interior, Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, and Natural Resources and Environment as well as the Royal Thai Army.

General Prayut will take this opportunity to listen to the locals' complaints, while at the same time explaining the past works of the Government and its future projects.

The decision on and the details of the visit will be finalized tomorrow (Nov 17), Capt Dr. Yongyuth said.

That's odd...more rain this year than the last few years, for sure. Many areas around our house very marshy, humidity is really high even after a week of no rain.

As often rain has fallen very irregular.

In many parts of eastern Isan (along the Mekong) you had much too much rain, while the bigger parts of central and southern Isan have a big rain deficit. We live in an area (west of Khon Kaen) where there was virtually no rainy season this year. Just a couple of days (maybe less than 10) with intense rain.

I am really curious about his visit to Khon Kaen on Wednesday.

I guess there will be extreme security measures like this province has never seen before (police and military in the thousands).

If anything about his schedule becomes public, I would advise to stay home if you live in the area visited.

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, also chairman of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) is scheduled to visit this week two northeastern provinces considered strongholds of the redshirt movement.

Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha will visit the provinces of Khon Kaen and Kalasin on 19 November, officials at the Government House said.

Officials say the junta leader is making the trip to collect opinions from the public about his administration of the country.

“He will listen to people about problems they have, and he will use the same opportunity to explain about what the government has done, and what the government plans to do in the future,” officials said.
