When is the smokey season for CR?

Featured Replies

Hi, I know the smokey season is around Feb to March every year but can anyone give me a better guess than that? I have some people who want to travel up here but leave before it gets here.

Thanks

Weather is notoriously hard to predict, so your friends are pretty much going to have to take their chances. A few bad days can often be followed by some good days so it is not like someone flips the switch one day and the weather remains bad for the next two months.

Today we had a heavy pea soup fog in the morning but it has burned off, now revealing a beautiful blue sky. The temperature is still cool and comfortable but will warm up later in the day. No telling what tomorrow will look like.

Around my house I would say the serious smoke starts mid to late February most years.

If your friends are gone by about Feb 15 I don't think it would be a big issue prior to then..

but as VF says can't really be sure.

Hi we usually have our friends to visits us in February when temperatures are pretty good and it usually coincides with the end of the Rice fields burning ( just started in Chiang mai area along with all the teak leaves and of course and every bit of plastic waste possible! )

usually then OKk but one can never be 100% .. hope they have a good trip

They're already burning here in Pattaya. Several days over the past few weeks have been really bad.

Started in Chiang Khong. Had some rain mid week. Wet leaves smoke best.

People burn more during some times of the year than others but burning goes on throughout the year. Whether it hangs around for any length of time has a lot to do with meteorological conditions.

Oh I do like to live beside the seaside where there is usually a nice sea breeze. Wouldn't live inland at any price.

I have had many friends with the “I would never do this or never do that attitude” and I guess it worked for them. I have always found it preferable to be flexible and make the best of the situation and place you are in. It allows more options in life.

If the air quality deteriorates, I bring the mt. bike indoors and find other things to do for a while. It probably helps me appreciate good weather all the more and helps me break routines and find new interests.
