BANGKOK: -- The Upper House speaker Khin Aung Myint called for bail for two Myanmar suspects arrested for the murder in Thailand's resort island of Koh Tao when he met with Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on November 24, according to Myanmar Radio and Television.

He said that all Myanmar nationals are interested in and watching the murder case. If the case is not filed at the court, the suspects should be released on bail. The Myanmar embassy will guarantee that the two men won't run away if they were released while on bail.

The Thai PM promised to do the best but asked for some time.

Khin Aung Myint commented that if the Koh Tao case is solved truthfully, it will certainly improve the relationships between the two countries.

According to Niran Phithakwatchara, a member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), police is asked to explain the case on December 1, December 4 or December 8. Police did not show up as asked by the commission. Niran on the day said that there could be misunderstanding.

Police said the two suspects confessed to the murder of two Britons on Koh Tao, but both recanted the confession later, saying that they were assaulted. Police is yet to explain the case.

Niran also said that without the explanation, he may propose that the commission lodge a complaint and take legal action against concerned police officers in accordance with the NHRC Act's Article 34.

The NHRC subcommittee on civil and political rights chaired by Niran had summoned the investigators five times for an explanation on the allegation, he said. The subcommittee had also submitted its interrogation guidelines to affirm that the inquiry was not related to who killed the two British tourists, but was to do with the concerned police team's working methods and if they resorted to beating the suspects as alleged, he said.

The article could be better written. The first line doesn't make clear that Khin Aung Myint is a Burmese gov't member.

Niran is Thai. He and his Commission have been stood up 5 times already, and now gives the police 3 dates to choose from.

If you were a teacher and had a group of rowdy students who were repeatedly cheating on exams, would you tolerate them missing 5 meetings to discuss the issue? ....AND give them 3 options to show up again. Of course, they're dealing with the Royal Thai Police who are known to tromp roughshod wherever and whenever they want. They've got friends in the highest echelons of power, so why should they show up to a meeting with a commission concerned about silly notions like human rights?

AFAIK bail is not normally granted to murder suspects who are foreigners accused of killing foreigners.

This case is a good example over the decades of poor RTP work time and again this department has either tainted evidence , arrested the wrong people or just let it go to the 2 hard basket, the clean - up at the top, now in progress is a start and needs to continue down the ranks , unfortunately the clean - up will only be the tip of the iceberg

Why do I sense an almost gloating tone in your post??

Have you ever considered, that you could be wrong in your blind faith in the RTP and the B2 could actually be innocent?? If so was the case, you have 2 innocent guys in prison, while the real killers are still free!!

While most of the posters here believe that the B2 are scapegoats, we still leave the door open to, that they could be guilty. You on the other side are clearly 100% convinced by the "investigation" presented by the RTP leading to the B2. Never any doubt??

Really? Why are foreigners passports as well as bail seized by the courts in criminal cases yet Thais pay only bail then? Helps if you actually know what you are talking about. Despite that protocol breaching the International Carter on Political & Civil Rights of which Thailand is a signatory.

Why? Because you read things into statements that aren't there.

I have stated that there are issues with the investigation, but think the 2 Burmese men of being the killers should be tried.

I, and most people on here, understood that the police had to attend on certain dates, and failed to do so. What exactly is there to misunderstand?

Stay in jail, it is the safest place to live right now. Even if you went to Burma, the mafia would kill you for favors owed or imagines. These two are walking dead men, their death is going to be the end of this one way or the other. Just a matter of whose soil they die on.

RTP have to get this case off their hands either way very soon, as the whole world (and it's dog) is watching. Everyone save RTP knows its impossible to 'polish a turd', but as usual won't let the B2 go free. They can't afford to lose face after receiving so many plaudits from the big Chief.

court system is pretty quick to grant bail. The red bull punk is an obvious

It would be fascinating if, like some are theorizing, this mess goes all the way to the top. That those truly responsible for the crimes, and for covering up the truth, are connected all the way to Bangkok.

If the pressure is kept on, and the truth fully comes out, the otherwise simple act of these two Burmese being set up as scapegoats, could topple a <deleted>.

Oh dear you are a dinwit. Bail criteria are the things which determine whether or not bail is granted. Nothing to do with bail conditions. I know a little about Thai law as Ive been merried to a Thai lawyer for 26 years.

They can only be detained for 84 days and the clock is ticking......

At the moment it is all being set up for damage limitation in order to save face, these two lads will be let go and the culprits will never be judged for their crime

The problem is I still can't fully rule these two out of committing the crime, their alibi of being pissed out of their heads isn't exactly great is it?

I am not sure that the judges can deny a bail hearing. The outcome of the hearing was imho a foregone conclusion due to the flight risk
