PM says government will not get involved in amnesty issue

12-2-2014-9-20-43-PM-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha said today that he is not concerned that the amnesty issue could spark off political conflict again because the issue has nothing to do with the government as it involves the National Reform Council.

However, he pointed out that amnesty and reconciliation are two different issues and should not be mixed together.

“If everyone wants reconciliation, then there is no need to cite any reasons to (support it) and we will go for reconciliation. If they (NRC) want an amnesty, then they will have to figure it out themselves because I never think about it and it won’t come from the government,” said the prime minister.

He went on saying that amnesty issue has both political and criminal aspects. Violent incidents which took place during protests are regarded as criminal cases whereas pure protests are regarded as political cases.

No amnesty for violence or corruption! Amnesty for free thought to help with reform. Amnesty fpr reformers tp speak whats on their minds. As long as the ideas are for the good of the people and natioj and not violating any current or previous laws. Breaking the law has consequences, freedom to suggest reform must be within current laws.

First he muzzles the press and the people, and then he takes the silence as support!!

Amnesty has nothing to do with him. That's because he already secured his own for staging the coup.

As for the rest of you, it's every man for himself, just like every other aspect of Thai law enforcement/ private wealth accumulation.

He used the threat of civil war as an excuse to stage the coup, and now suddenly it has nothing to do with him??

it wasn't the general who was threatening civil war, or arming one political faction, or advocating breaking up of the country, or cheering at the news of the murder of innocent bystanders and political opponents.

Isn't a military coup itself an act of civil war?

You can't blame Gen. Prayuth for distancing the NCPO from the Amnesty issue.

The NCPO couldn't achieve political reconciliation between the PTP and Democrats when it had guns pointed at their heads (figuratively). It was easier to overthrow the government and give itself amnesty than dealing with politics.
