The other Semi final is tomorrow night, with Vietnam being favourites to win over Malaysia and play Thailand in the final.

The 1st leg will be played at Rajamangala on Wednesday - KO 7:00pm. The 2nd leg (away leg for Thailand) is scheduled for Saturday 20th.

Yep, well done thailand. A much needed shot in the arm for the national team. looked amazing, great to see a sell out at that stad, Barring the screaming women!!! Seemed a Great atmosphere, and a good game. Ive always enjoyed thailand games, the problems been the lack of fans and that stad' isnt the easiest of places to get to.

Football: Chappuis, Thai Messi break Malaysian hearts

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) - Late strikes from Swiss-born Charyl Chappuis and Chanathip "Messi Jay" Songkrasin broke Malaysian hearts as Thailand won their fourth Southeast Asian title in a dramatic AFF Suzuki Cup final on Saturday.

Hosts Malaysia fought back from a 2-0 first-leg deficit to lead 3-0 on the night, but the goals from Chappuis and Chanathip gave Thailand a 4-3 aggregate win and ended their 12-year drought in the competition.

It was a stunning finish from Thailand, who seemed to have run out of ideas after Safiq Rahim’s double and Indra Putra’s header put Malaysia in control.

Chappuis scored a rebound from a free-kick on 82 minutes before Chanathip, dubbed "Messi Jay" because of his stature and dribbling skill, smashed home Thailand’s second five minutes later.

Malaysia had got the start they wanted when striker Norshahrul Talaha went down too easily in the box and the referee pointed to the spot for a soft penalty.

Safiq coolly sent goalkeeper Kawin Thamsatchanan the wrong way to reduce the arrears to 2-1 on aggregate after Thailand’s 2-0 win in Bangkok on Wednesday.

Thailand’s Perapat Notechaiya hit the woodwork in an open first half before Indra Putra grabbed Malaysia’s second with a downwards, far-post header on the stroke of half-time.

The momentum was firmly with the hosts at a packed Bukit Jalil stadium and Safiq put them ahead 3-2 on aggregate with a sumptuous, dipping free-kick on 58 minutes.

But Chappuis got the crucial away goal for Thailand when Malaysian ’keeper Farizal Marlias palmed a free-kick into his path and he buried the rebound.

And "Messi Jay" lived up to his nickname with an thumping left-footed strike from outside the area to make sure of Thailand’s win.

Thais break 12-year drought to win Asean title again after thriller in KL

THAILAND'S 12-year wait for major international silverware came to the end in dramatic fashion yesterday when they were crowned the Asean Championship winners after a nerve-jangling 4-3 aggregate win.

Last night's result was 3-2 in Malaysia's favour but Thailand had a 2-0 advantage from the first final match on Wednesday.

The country's last triumph at senior level came in 2002 when they won the championship for the third time. No one could have predicted it would take more than a decade for the Thais, who won three of the first four editions of the biennial event after its inception in 1996, to taste such success again.

The final victory over 2010 winners Malaysia capped a sizzling campaign characterised by an attractive brand of football. It also put Thailand level with Singapore as the most successful nations, with four titles in the region's showpiece tournament.

The win earned the Thai players their biggest pay-day with over Bt25 million in prize money and incentives from the Football Association of Thailand and sponsors.

The Thai FA, meanwhile, has prepared a big reception for the returning heroes, starting with an open-topped bus parade from Don Mueang Airport to Supachalasai Stadium in downtown Bangkok this afternoon.

Before the game at the intimidating Bukit Jalil stadium in the Malaysian capital, there were leaked photos showing a red national jersey, which the Thai side were due to wear, with the phrase "This shirt is blue" written on it. The players hoped this would bring them luck after playing in blue shirts without losing in the event so far.

In fact, it was exactly the slice of luck that the Thais needed to end their long barren run. The Malaysians, roared on by a capacity crowd at the 100,000-seat venue, had threatened to pip them to the title by taking a 3-0 lead with half an hour remaining.

But the Thai side, coached by talismanic trainer Kiatisak Senamuang, the man credited for the team's recent resurgence after leading the under-23 team to SEA Games triumph last December, staged a remarkable fightback with two goals to ensure they return home with the prized title.

Then the first goal and what a cracking shot to complete the game and tournament for Thailand. We are in Singapore and should have gone to the Sing v Thai game (which Thai won ).

Both my wife and youngest girl jumping for joy at the whistle and watching the celebrations - shame it wasn't in Thailand though.

The Mal-Thai two legs finals are all about wrong strategy employed by Dollah and the right strategy by Kaitisuk. Dollah should know better to match the much younger Thais in speed and running in the first leg. By the last 20 minutes, the much older Malaysian was slower in their turns and decision making and the Thais scored twice. Then again Dollah persisted in the same strategy for the second leg. The war elephant soaked it up in the first half, did not panick after 3-0 down and scored when the quick tiring Malaysia offered little resistance. If the Malaysian don't start to invest in their youth players, they will not able to compete even on ASEAN level.
