Is It True That The Skytrain Will Be Extended To 107?

I recall reading this recently but have searched without finding out. It would be a blooming good idea. On nut is fine but it really needs to go beyond.

wow, that would be great if can reach Thonburi, Samut Prakan or Saphan Mae quickly ! however it'd take min 6 years for those extension to be complete !

I recall there are plans for subway as well (MRTS) ?

BTW - subway has raised their rates - perhaaps sky train would follow that lead?

yes, both systems help passangers, but at price. and whether they do any good to improve Bkk traffic - that is very questionable ! I remember in '99 before sky train has started there were also a lot of enthusiastic talks that traffic would be less congested - and look now at Silom/Sathorn, Sukhumvit or Phaon Yothin (main 3 streets where skytrain lines are on) - hardly can see difference comparinmg to that 'before skytrain' time !

Work will start shortly on the extension to Soi LaSalle (is that 107?). It's not going further because the project belongs to the Bangkok administration and that's their outer limit. The traffic police have been talking about the preparations on the JS100 radio station and the poor guy in charge of North Samrong is sounding resigned to his fate.

An extension to Samrong or Paknam would be an absoute blessing and really make a huge difference to the traffic situation - but it doesn't look to be on the cards in the near future.

They had been a talk about the mass transportation in BK for like a 25years before it has been actuary built. (now it is the bts and the short distance subway)

Thais took another 25+ years talking about the new airport before it was built.

Thais also took another 30+ years talking about a big seaport project in the south, now… not yet been build!!

For the extension of the bts, it has been on the “talk” for only 6 years (as I remember).

I think, they still have many more year to talk.

Skytrain to run to Sukhumvit 107

Bangkok officials will sign a contract today to extend the Skytrain from On Nut to Sukhumvit 107.

City clerk Khunying Nathanon Thavisin said yesterday she would sign a Bt3.87-billion contract, on behalf of the Bangkok Metropol-itan Administration, with Italian-Thai Development Plc to build the civil works - stations and tracks - for the 5.25-kilometre extension.

The project's total cost exceeds Bt8 billion: Bt3.873 billion for civil engineering, Bt4.65 billion for signalling and operation systems, Bt245 million for consultants, and Bt10 million for public relations.

The extension will have stations at Sukhumvit 83, Sukhumvit 97/1, Sukhumvit 101/1, Sukhumvit 101/2 and Sukhumvit 107 (Soi Baring).

The Bangkok Council has only approved a Bt719.2 million budget for the project so far.

But BMA Traffic and Transport Department director Apirat Siwa-pornpitak said Ital-Thai would start the first phase next month, moving infrastructure such as electric and telephone wires and water pipes to make way for the construction of station bases and tracks.

The extension is due to be finished in three years, he said.

The contract-signing will be held at City Hall.

Hard to figure why anyone would have a problem understanding the benefits of mass public transport?

I think about 400,000 people ride the BTS every day, 180,000 on the MRT.
