Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to purchase outdoor furniture in Pattaya? I'm looking for a small table ans some chairs for my balcony. Also seeking suggestions for best type of material (teak, aluminum, etc.) in this climate.

Teak (50k) Plastic (2k) how much do you wont to spend?

I don't mind spending 40k if good quality teak, properly treated. The reason I ask is I just had an experience with a major store in Pattaya. I spent 40k on a teak set and within 3 weeks the finish came off. I consider myself lucky to have gotten my money back but am now reluctant to buy teak if the suppliers don't know how to properly treat it . I was wondering if there were good quality alternatives to teak or just purchase teak somewhere else and take my chances on the set holding up.

Genuine teak is a protected wood so unless it is very old it will most likley be a good hardwood which should just be oiled or even left natural.

But be warned your thai GF may not like old wood as it will contain spirits from the house it came from.

The usual treatment on wood here is to use stuff that comes in bottles which is generally called "shelac" it's OK to use inside but not outside. Also the so called wonder polyurethene varnishes peel and lift off in this heat.

I would simply buy those low cost chairs/loungers you see at the side of the road and throw them away a year later, they are really comfortable and cost nothing.

Failing that there is alway cast concrete. :o

You should tell all the furniture manufactures in CM that teak is protected.. :D

Teak is the best word for outdoor furniture IMO.It is extreamly durable and is insect resistant. If left in the sun, it will slowly turn grey.

As said above, it should be oiled every few months.

Last time I was in CM we went to a furniture manufacture's factory... it was piled high with teak "driftwood" that had been washed down the Ping in flood.

I couldn't help but wonder if there's a backwoods "market" somewhere in CM where all this "driftwood" could be purchased... :D

I think most of i tcomes from Burma and Laos. There is also prolly an amount that comes from Thailand as well....

Very, very big business.I would imagine that many "big" people have their fingers in the pie.

I know of one place that must have 1-2 million baht worth of timber..stored out the back....:D
