In case anyone is travelling back to Australia on Jetstar from Phuket, be aware that as a result of the 'uncertain' situation, tonight's outbound flight has been postponed until further notice, and tomorrow night's outbound flight has been delayed until the following day (Wednesday) at 6am.

These delay/postponements may change of course, so please contact Jetstar in Bangkok on 02-2675125 for updates.

Update - the flight to Sydney (JQ28) tonight (Monday) is cancelled, and passengers will travel tomorrow night at 1830. Passengers scheduled to fly to Melbourne tomorrow night will fly at 0630 on Wednesday morning.

No connection between the flights cancelled and a one-man siege in a Sydney cafe!! The airline is just using this as an excuse to cancel flights under circumstances 'beyond our control'!!!

What is the connection between the two? I don't see it.

Jetstar rarely cancels flights on these routes. My understanding from the airport is that the Australian government does not want planes entering their airspace right now, (remember 9/11). But the situation is obviously fluid.

My understanding was that the incident was a very local. Few blocks of the city were blocked access, but that was about it.

There is no large scale fear of ISIS, as those few numbered nutters wish to present themselves.

Airlines, regulator say Sydney Airport operating normally Airlines said on Monday that flights are landing and taking off normally at Sydney Airport, but a diversion is in place around the city's central business district after reports that a gunman had taken hostages in a cafe in the centre of the city. The government-owned regulator, Airservices Australia, confirmed normal operations at both the domestic and international airports south of the city.

does seem like a massive overreaction to one lone terrorist in a coffee shop. but guess you never know with terrorists.

Sounds like this was initiated by Jetstar. Haven't heard of any other airlines flying to Sydney being affected.
