For 3 g sim they want me passport and work permit

Did not know I need a work permit to play games on an ipad crazy

Don't know why they want a work permit, but the passport details I think are a recent requirement so that the government can tie an ID to a SIM card.

I have had a 1-2-call SIM card for years, but when AIS upgraded it to 2100mhz for 3G, they asked me for passport also.

For crime prevention and anti terrorism reasons I presume. That being said, True were handing out free SIM cards to tourists on arrival not too long back.

If you have id 'attached' to your SIM card and you loose your phone you can easily walk into the company shop and get a replacement SIM with the same number. Very useful if you use it as your business number, no idea about the wp unless maybe it was for a contract SIM card and not a pre-pay card?

I think that Sketcher is correct. I do not know about an ipad, but I recently bought an iphone for one of my staff and part of that deal was a contract SIM - 'included in the price'.

It's really nothing to do with Ipad, it's how the providers of service do business with us Farangs.... I had the same thing with AIS a few years ago with a Nokia Phone, ....

Same too if you get internet service, at least with True, CAT or 3BB... others too, I imagine, (first year at least usually) ? ....Unless done by a Thai as suggested above....

The topic title is a bit misleading .... whistling.gif
