US Passport Pictures in Chiang Mai

Can anyone recommend a place around the Old City that does passport pictures that will be accepted by the US embassy here in Chiang Mai for passport renewals. I know from previous experience in the US that Passport Services is 'really picky' about passport photos.

I don't want to show up for my renewal appointment to find out my 'made in Thailand' passport picture is unacceptable. I'd prefer to go to a photography shop that has made passport pics for other US citizens applying for a US passport renewal. Looking for suggestions from someone who has done this successfully.

Thanks!

Star Visa, about a 5 minute walk from the U.S. Consulate on the same street as the enterence to the Consulate. 100 THB and they do a good job. My family got theirs there about 2 weeks ago. Recommended by the U.S. Consulate. Nice people.

Kodak has a shop not far from Thaipai gate. They have a nice studio and you can get the digital file also, so you can print them whenever you need.

The US consulate cannot recommend any private business. So I don't belive that statement at all. 100% against US protocol.

Someone should let the people at the consulate know.

They certainly pointed it out to me when my passport photos weren't acceptable due to the background being too dark. They told me the name (Star Visa) and said it was just a few meters up the street. Very helpful bunch I've always found at the Consulate.

Guess you can't account for their having listings of Lawyers and other sources when a citizen needs help.

You can get the photos anywhere (or even do the photo yourself using the State Departments "photo tool" on their website. All of the detailed requirements, photo tool link, etc., are listed rather plainly here: http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english/passports/photos/photos.html

Photo tool. Thanks cool. Don't have a decent printer though.

Looks like it's Star Visa. They obviously opened shop within proximity to the US Embassy for a reason.

I seriously doubt they did. It was just a friendly worker who recommended them. The staff is allowed to have their own opinion. It is not a red shirt operation.

I do not travel that much now but when I first got here I did to other countries as well as the yearly extension so I got pictures in several sizes just to be sure.

There is a Kodak shop in the basement of Kad Suan Kaew mall that did U.S. passport photos for me about two weeks ago that were perfectly acceptable to the U.S. consulate. I was going to use the Fuji shop, where I normally go for photos for Immigration, but their camera was broken. They said "come back tomorrow" and when I said I had to go to the consulate the next morning they reluctantly told me about the Kodak shop just down the hall.

Not only were the Kodak photos accepted at the U.S. consulate, they looked fantastic! Hubby said they must have photoshoped away my double chin. Highly unlikely for a 100 baht photo. Plus, he's in the doghouse for such sweet-talk.

I got mine at Photo Bug on Chang Pueak, they also do Canadian one's that have very precise requirements

I highly recommend this shop for camera equipment too, the boss is very nice, knowledgable and more then willing to help and is a fair man of his word!
