CHIANG RAI, Jan 16 -- Police here arrested a drug trafficker with one million methamphetamine pills in a hospital carpark. They said the drugs were destined for Bangkok.

Pol Lt Gen Thanitsak Theerasawasdi, commander of Provincial Police Region 5, said Niran Sakulrakkiat, 43, was arrested driving a pickup truck with 10 bags containing 1 million methamphetamine pills and 18 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine or "ice" in green tea packages.

The suspect alleged that a man named Samran Khongkitcharoen hired him to park the truck at a gas station where another person would drive the vehicle to Bangkok.

Police later arrested an alleged accomplice, who was not identified.

Gen Thanitsak said the speed pills came from the network of a Shan dealer identified as Saeng.

The network is active in border areas of Chiang Khong district in Chiang Rai and localities in the Lao PDR opposite Chiang Khong.

It was the biggest capture of illicit drugs there this year and the market value of the drug could exceed Bt500 million in the capital. (MCOT online news)

Chiang Rai continues to be the drug transition province for many years. They catch about 1 per month. When will the military government move in and rebuild the local government and provincial police?

Job well done lads.
