Arab Town To Be Built In Bangkok

Can't see why people are getting so cross. We lived in the ME for three years andhad no problem at all. Most muslims are moderate and tolerant, itis the mental few that give them a bad name. Same as everyone.

Leisurely.......................................................................

..........................................................

end of quote.

This is true and i don,t have any grudge against law abiding citizens no matter who they are.

It,s the few who are a real problem and do the majority an injustice and need to be exposed by these law abiding muslims / or which ever race has these fanatical nutters among them.

It has to be been noted that the biggest problem with segregating them and giving them their own independance ( which in effect this proposal will do ) is isolating other societies and in particular the society they have chosen to live among and thereby encouraging bitterness and resentment.

In the U.K. for instance we have no end of riots and racial tension because none of the multi cultural races truly intergrate and are thereby allowed to develop as if they have just moved to another neighbourhood not a new cultured society.

O.K. i hear some of you say, some are home grown.

Yes they are, but through isolation they may as well be in the country of their ancestors.

Get rid of the individuals who preach hatred no matter who they are or where they travel / learn their doctrine from.

Instead of isolating them by seperate sections put up in certain areas, everyone should instead be encouraged to truly intergrate and accept as number one, the culture of the country they have chosen to live in and it,s laws.

We are not talking about unreasonable and inhumane societies by the way.

It is a big mistake to build little this and that,s to acommodate pc correctness and all that negative stuff in these areas we all are more than aware of.

Live and let live but first and foremost respect who your hosts are or don,t bother living there.

Also the muslims along with all societies should police those among them who spread hate and report / prevent and if not thereby encourage extremists to flourish by turning a blind eye...............................

Without Exception.

In my humble opinion of course.

marshbags :o:D:D

P.S.

I have over many years travelled the world and lived in several of the many diverse societies.

I have always respected the local culture and it,s laws as everyone should, otherwise do not expect to live there in the first place.

Let us get back to reality or we are all doomed.

I hope this post is not seen as anti Muslim or anti Arab however feel free to view this as anti terrorist.

So does this mean we will soon be seeing metal detectors at the sky train and subway? No joke I am serious about this. Some terrorist will no doubt find their way here and blend in with the increased population in Bangkok caused by this Arab town until they explode. I prefer to keep this city named Bangkok and not BANGkok.

I feel sorry for what the terrorist have done in image to the good people from those parts of the world.

Have you totally MISSED the vast number of arab people that are in Thailand already? or any other ethnic group in Thailand? Have you missd that the few acts of terrorism that have happened in SEAsia have been conducted by other SEAsians? <not counting the seperatist movements in Southern Thailand when I say 'few' but while those are heinous they are nothing like embassy bombings or Bali.

Think it through

What a lot of prejudiced rubbish. How many of you self-righteous posters have tried to "fit in" in Thailand by converting to Buddhism or learning to read/write and speak the language? And have you failed to notice the number of existing mosques here? My first thought is good, may be able to get some decent babaganoush!

why play the racialist and predudist card, say something constructive.

could you please tell me where thier is a muslim arab town settlement outside of the arab nations, where it has been intergrated and working within a different community succesfully.

i am in no way being racialist but only realistic, i would love to see this type of thing work, but i would hate to see it ruin an area of bangkok, this should take a lot of planning and research to get it right, and not just rush into the planning and take the attitude 'lets see how it pans out'

if you need a fix of arabian dishes well go no further than the grace hotel and the immediate area.

don,t forget the thais will not be as lenient as the west, if there are problems the reprisals by the thais will be swift. and that can escallate any situations,

be very carefull and thoughtfull in the early planning stages of this type of project.

The topic of my post was will there be increased security as a result of this town. Town implies in my mind a huge population jump. I am being as open minded on this as I can be. But lets just say as an example 1 in 1000 is a terrorist, then you would only need about 5000 people to make a 5 person terrorist cell. Lets face it Thailand is a magnet for all types. I can recall they caught a big one in Nana this year with fake passports. So he had connections here, and logic dictates the more people the more contacts and the greater chance of terrorism. So again does this mean metal detectors will be added at the skytrain and subway?

Again have you missed the HUGE arab population that exists here? Been around Grace Hotel or Soi Nana. The stated fact earlier that there are 70,000+ Medical tourists from the Middle East annually at BH? That doesn't count the families ... that doesn't count the business men .... that doesn't count the tourists .... that doesn't count the expats ... so make it maybe 1,000,000 in a year or just 500,000 ...

Knee jerk anti-muslim reactions are ugly

This is a really bad idea and “Rajthanee chairman Dr Boon Vanasin" should be thoroughly ashamed of himself for even contemplating it.

Someone (earlier) mentioned Chinatown(s). There is a Chinatown in virtually every capital city in the world but they are poles apart from what a purpose built and purely Arabic enclave (or one for any other ethnic group) represents.

No-one should be saying that people from Arabic countries should not come here either as visitors or as residents just as every other nationality under the sun is welcome to do.

The problem is in setting up a ‘reserved’ area for a particular group of people to live. Why? I don’t demand a ‘European’ or a ‘Christian’ area in which to live. I am delighted to be able to live in Thailand as a farang (period) and to be surrounded by so many different nationalities where I live.

When I drive down into the local villages or town I see people of all nationalities and faiths living and working harmoniously together.

Let’s keep it that way – please.

This is such a feeble post I invite you to be educated about Maoist rebels and Nicaraguan contras et al in person

mail me.

Look at every major conflict in the world today and you will find its Muslims vs SomeoneElse....Muslims vs Hindus, Muslims vs Christians, Muslims vs Budhists etc etc...only one common factor....

No getting away from it.............................every diliberate act of unspeakable horror is linked to this group.................

It's all very well to say it's only a few radicals but thats all it takes to wipe out major cities and kill a few thousand.

Do you need a history lesson?

"every diliberate act of unspeakable horror is linked to this group" is quite the bold and misconceived statement.

Think for a moment that 2,000,000 sq feet of land alone, gonna cost them around $200million only.

1- first, How they can build such large projects with such little money?

2-secondly, New airport has been build not very far from Rama 9, and land prices are increasing

like hel_l, there will be shortage of land and so much conjunction in bangkok city and place explode in near future, i don't think government will approve such project

3-Thailand isn't muslim country, even Bangkok may have around 250,000 thai muslims, that's not even 2% of bangkok resident, such large project needs to accomdate more than 1.5 million arab

arrivals every year.

4-1.5million arab arrivals isn't possible, because unlike western tourist, 90% Arabs males to bangkok are sex tourist and don't go elsewhere except bangkok and pattaya. I thought taksin wanted to end prostitution

5-I have lived in middle east for 20 plus years, i don't think muslims from every country like to mix

up with arabs like Iranian, turkish, nigerians, malaysians, pakistanis, indonesian, ....

This project is said to launch end of this year, and complete in 5 years, but.....

This project will not happen or fails for sure

excuse me!! unlike western tourist, 90% Arabs males to bangkok are sex tourist

where exactly did you get he statistics.. or this is another of your sensible thoughts or believes?

just wondering.. why do the westerners come to thailand then??

23% of the total tourists in Thailand in the year 2005 are from Europe in comparison to 2.64% from the middle east.

i m sure all those westerners have vows not to have sex with anyone while in thailand. very interesting, isn't it..??

Get yourself educated. You haven't been to any place other than bangkok or pattaya i believe.

The prove is you very rarely see MEerns in samui, phuket, phangan, krabi, chiang mai,....

Poeple go places for Beaches, scenery, culture,...Not for BG. For your info, saudi nationals (richest and most populated ME arab country is banned from traveling to thailand as tourist) Imagine what happen if Thailand open its door to these sex hungry tourists

Arab town=Next Town size Grace serving of thais, africans, former russians states....whorehouse

there is something fundamentally wrong with any group that cannot integrate into existing systems and that has a religon that is descriminatory to other groups and women

However its catching on around the world and more and more are signing up for it

Even in THailand its creeping in slowly but surely

Anyone visited Ramkhamhaeng area recently - take a boat ride from ASOKE area - you will be surprised

What is it

in bkk, many Thai muslims live in communities along side klongs. Ramkamhaeng, khlong Saen Saeb, and up near ISB the American school there. Very different, interesting and unique side of BKK that most of the male sex tourists form UK, Aus and US will never see. But given that we are dealing broad baseless generalisations that last comment would be perfecty accepable and understandable to a majority of contibutors to this thread. :o

Check out the arab street in Singapore, ppl do lead an interesting life there and co-exist well with the locals. Broaden your horizon mate, religions and cultures different from yours do not mean they are bad, just that they are - unique. Learn to appreciate them. :o

member of the john howard, dog whistle politics school of communication there are we Colin? Pretend to be on he fence with an intial comment of "I'm not racist...but". Followed up by a "I would love to see this work but......", but then finally stick in the boot with a final word after you've made yourself seem reasonable and unbiased. Good work. Makes people more fearful of absoultely sweet FA. Maybe when Allan Jones quits radio you can take his job.

BKKDUDE --- are you SURE you have been to Phuket a whole 3 times? If so you must have missed the Halal Food Festival ... or the huge number of Middle Easterners around. Strangely as I was riding the motorcycle today I joined in with a group of arab guys riding for about 15 minutes ... nice guys!

And no ... theyare not all in Patong

I absolutely LOVE the rampant racist and anti-muslim stereotyping! Helps me understand WHY people on both sides <reactionary whites and muslim radicals> act with such stupidity

Arab town in Bangkok

BANGKOK: -- Thai-based Rajthanee Realty, two Saudi investors and a UAE sheikh are building a $160m "Arab Town" in Bangkok, according to the Bangkok Post. The 2m sqft development will include a hotel, residential and office buildings, general amenities and a mosque.

Rajthanee chairman Dr Boon Vanasin says more Middle Easterners are moving to Asia, particularly Malaysia, because they felt less welcome in Europe and America due to issues related to terrorism.

--Agencies 2006-08-17

Great.......they'll soon use Bangkok as their new launch pad to plan terrorist plots within S.E. Asia

As it is, you can already find them loitering with intent in Soi 5 & 7 Sukhumvit.

But then again, better to have them in one place so that the Thai authorities can monitor effectively.........

:D

You might not be aware of it but.. "arab" does not necessarily mean "terrorist" :o

A huge increase in visitors from the ME for medical care is one reason you see so many nowdays.

In year 2000, Bumrungrad saw appx. 5000 ME patients.

After 9-11, they stopped going to the US for medical.

Last year, Bumrungrad saw 70,000 ME patients.

Now, they bought the Hospital my doctor told me.

I visit Thailand twice a year and I always go to Bumrungrad Hospital for check-ups etc. It is true that over the years I see more ME patients every time I visit. Of course this is good for Thailand and a good compliment for the Hospital. However the prospect of an Arab buy-out of the hospital gives me an uneasy feeling since the ethos and workings of the hospital under the present regime seem quite good. I am a bit worried that something will change to the worst. I hope I will be proven wrong.

I do not see any difference with all white noses, that assemble also always in the same places. Maybe some might be a little upset, that our Arab friends will get a decent condo, whereas the average white nose seem to prefer a 3.000 baht shack, and most Farang men have left their wives a long time ago too. I really do not see the problem. Nothing wrong with the Grace either, after all there are little Japans, Little koreas and American pedophiles in town, which are far more shocking. I only can guess why this non issue have been posted, or is it just to create a bit hatred?

...and it is much easier to leave their families in Arab Town and head out to Soi Cowboy or down to Pattaya then it is to fly the family over and stick em' in a hotel whilist they boogie over to the nightlife.

...kinda' like Little Beirut, maybe? Nobody else sees a problem here?

it is a big mistake it will take no time that BKK will get it's terroists activities from the Arab city. be cleaver kick them out quickly. don't allow to build a mosque it will be like hornet's nest in the heart of BKK.
