CHIANG MAI: -- The rector of Chiang Mai university has ordered the removal of two bottle shape balloons of a green tea brand following complaints that it was inappropriate and obstruct the view of its main auditorium where a graduation ceremony will be held today.

Action from the rector Dr Niwes Nantajit came after pictures of the two giant five-metre high balloons were posted on the Internet, and went viral.

Some questioned why they were allowed to appear inside the compound and opposite the university’s auditorium where graduation ceremony will be held today and thousands of graduates and family members and friends will arrive to take photographs.

Following the criticism and complaints, the two bottles were later removed today.

A university spokesman Thirapat Wannarumol later explained that it was a misunderstanding.

He said the tea company was permitted to set up booth to sell drinks near the auditorium and it deliberately displayed bottle shape balloons but was later prohibited.

This year the same company also opened booth nearby range and opposite the auditorium, and again displayed the balloons, he added.

First the 'fake snow' and now the tea bottle balloons. It appears that some are out to get this guy which is the owner of the Thai tea company where the products are sold everywhere around Thailand. He must have made some enemies otherwise if it was anyone else with his money would normally get away with his advertising efforts.

people who complained were students and teachers, it has nothing to do with enemies ... the owner is a very well like guy in Thailand, he has done a good job marketing himself to say the least.
