Phitsanulok DLT visits road accident victims

PHITSANULOK, 27 Jan 2015, (NNT) - The Land Transport Office in Phitsanulok yesterday visited a number of road accident victims, as part of the department’s “Return the Happiness to Road Accident Victims, Return the Safety to the Streets” campaign.

The Office representatives yesterday visited and handed over a wheelchair to Mr. Somjit Tong-Aim who was paralyzed when a ten wheeler truck driver, who was driving under the influence, drove the truck over the motorcycle Mr. Somjit was riding at the time. He lost both legs from the accident.

Another road accident victim was Chattarin Chan-in, a teenager who had for years been paralyzed from a motorcycle accident. The Land Transport Office donated a bed and an air bed to prevent the disabled having bedsores to the family of the victim as they had earlier requested.

The Department of Land Transport will organize an event on January 28, showing its genuineness in taking care of road accident victims in response to the government’s campaign to reach out to the victims of road accidents. At the event, officials will be giving out equipment and accessories to the victims of road accidents..

Accident victims may contact the Academic Group Transportation for assistance at 055-301031.

Where's the division between percentages of the visited being alledged victims and self-inflicted injuries by not following the law (such as wearing a helmet or seat-belt, having bright lights {or even working lights}, no poles, trees or fishing-rods extended from their method of transport for example), and the times/dates of their accidents, e.g. during Songkhran, New Year, etc.?

What's the law again concerning young if not yet teenagers riding a motorcycle? As usual, a lot of info missing. (was he accompanied, sitting on the rear seat or amongst 5 members of family........?)

Half the sufferers have caused accidents which have resulted in the deaths of many others. How about returning some happiness to families who lost members because some drivers swerved and ended up dead too...... it's not only applicable to said victims of accidents, indeed there are many of the latter.

Maybe by enforcing traffic laws and drivers being held accountable including all HISO's who get away with killing people with there cars just because they pay blood money. They should pay damages plus do time in jail to reflect on there actions. Also better driver training would be of help.

Surely they'd be better off showing some form on genuineness by attempting to prevent some or many of the accidents in the first place.

Last year I drove Route 12 east from Phitsanulok - Road works on the route, very poor signage, very sudden ends to the road etc created situations where crashes were highly probable.. At night some of the works were not even lit...

Frequent accidents made national news, I refused to drive that road at night, it was dangerous enough in the day time.

However, its not just roads with road works which are dangerous to the extreme, other roads have extremely dangerous hotspots....

Why wait until after the accidents to respond in some form or manner?... Thailand is so terrible at foreseeing simple issues and dealing with them appropriately.

Is it a lack of foresightedness, a lack of responsibility, a lack of accountability or a lack of caring?... Perhaps a combination of all....

Just 4 days after the comments above were made 3 lives were lost on the very same stretch of road (highway 12 from Phitsanulok) that was outlined above as being highly dangerous.

This is not chance or bad luck - this was predictable - Why on earth aren't those in a position of responsibility able to predict the same???? - I'm now thinking nothing other than laziness...
