Yet the fatalities are going down.

2012 - 326 deaths.

2013 - 322 deaths.

2014 - 212 deaths.

As the numbers indicate, the general security situation has improved.

And rest assured that because the red shirts are not behind this terrorism it will not be downplayed by comparing it to car accidents in the South.

Lets hope the Junta stay pro active down there and continue on the road to eliminating the terrorism. 1 death is still 1 too many.

I'd say it last 'stopped' with the decline of the Communist insurgency in the early '80s. From then till the early 2000s the region was basically safe. I spent a great deal of time working in the four southern provinces in the '90s and heard of no organized violence, let alone experiencing any myself.

Things began to heat up again around 2002-4, then really got nasty from 2005 when Thaksin brought in the jackboots. My sense is that it's now easing a bit but that we remain a long, long ways from any real solution.

Wow, just like your avatar, you treat politics and deaths like a sport. You have picked a side and that's it. Bombers (General) through and through until I die.

Politics and life are not sport and shouldn't have cheerleaders barracking for one side.

From all your posts I realise that once your family was threatened which is inexcusable, but that seems to have blinded you.

Politics and life isn't sport, drop your pom poms and stop acting like a teenage cheerleader.

A visit by the concerned PM would be a help. To busy? Not enough publicity? The person who can solve the southern violence is someone the people WOULD truely vote for. Great politicians in world history are those who have solved great problems, try it Prayut.

I doubt very much that his family was threatened. After all, would you bother to threaten a poor rice farmer whose roof leaks and only have tiny black and white television?

This violence is just an aberration.

General Prayuth has promised a peace agreement with insurgents by the end of 2015 and has guaranteed that by designating Malaysia as "The One" to bring the insurgents to peace talks. General Prayuth has also launched his formidable "They just need to understand" offensive to pacify the Muslim Southern countryside using the "Win Their Hearts and Mind" formula used by the Americans during the Vietnam war. Meanwhile the military-led government is working to enshrine Buddhism in the new constitution as a state sponsored faith for Thai society What can possibly go wrong?

Nahhh.... the PM too busy with looking cute in khaki and concerning him self with trivial matters,

no fame and glory in putting an end the unrest in the south, life is cheap there, Malaysia is not

doing anything about it so why should he?
