Samui Speedboat Madness

sbs.jpg

KOH SAMUI: -- Reports have come in to the Samui Times that tourist excursion speedboats based at the Lompraya jetty near Wat Napalarn in Maenam have recently started a dangerous daily activity in the Maenam beach area which is putting the lives of local swimmers at risk.

As the pictures sent to us show, speedboat drivers are now regularly cruising at speed along the beach-line in Maenam less than 10 metres from the shore, putting the lives of anyone in the water at serious risk.

One local resident told the Samui Times “It is bad enough having jet-ski drivers speeding around and risking the lives of anyone swimming around less than 50 metres from the shore-line, but to have these speedboats speedboatscoming so close to a public beach which is regularly used by adult and child swimmers is a different ball-game all together, and can often be seen cruising less than 10 metres from the shore… completely unacceptable.”

“The drivers of these boats have a very limited view of the area ahead, making it almost impossible to see swimmers in their path. it is obvious that if this kind of behaviour is not stopped immediately, then it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or killed.”

The pictures included in this article, along with the original video, will be given to local police… let us hope that they will do something about this… and quickly!

Wouldn't surprise me if the local police are the owners.

Can see 100 Baht fines dished out willy-nilly here.

Though 2 or 3 deaths should curb this madness.

A few truck loads of large Rocks deposited in the night might solve the problem.

No Need for rocks... some rope and or fishing net will sort out his prop very quickly......whistling.gif

If an accident does happen, and it happens to a farang, no doubt the old Thai "anti logic" will raise its head - "It was the farang's fault - if the farang had not been there in the first place, the accident wouldn't have happened". And similarly, if the accident happened to a Thai, and the speedboat driver was a farang - "Same, same".

Must be a foreign captain, since "Thais would never do such a thing..."

More effective- order their loved ones and family members in the water as human shields!

the beach madness is destroying pattaya as well, from jet skis, to the caos created by the tour groups and the morning parasail ,the buses scream down beach rd then triple park to load and on load tour groups,..thailand is a buisness..WE DONT HAVE A BEACH ANYMORE WE HAVE A LOADING ZONE..for speed boats jet skis and parasailing..sawadee no crap

Complete lack of intelligence and lack of respect for others only think of me me I am number one look at me, aren’t I a big boy now, and everyone loves me like I love me.

Just dont go to Koh Samui. First Pattaya, have a very bad name in many ways. Who is next?

It is really useful to complain to journalists ?

I guess a bullet in the right direction would be a lot more efficient !

Try slingshots, lead the boat and get good with practice.

The beach shown on the top photo is the public beach next to the Lomprayah pier. The speedboats comes from a "sister company" called Lomlahk.

Maybe Italian the captain is his name Costa?

some pieces of junk rope or wood will stop these xxxxxxx and teach them a lesson

Some people simply dont understand that such activities can damage the good reputation of an island.

And these speed boat or operators simply are carelerss.

The speedboats in the background by the pier belong to Lomlahk (the big white ones) this blue boat appears to be some other company.

Just saying, you have the area right but if we are going to point fingers at idiots make sure you get the right idiots.

time to put some army boys on the beaches

This article comments are really getting into it now

Well i don't blame as I have liked a few posts along that vein

Did someone already say Thainess?

Your not safe on land, air or sea in pretty much all of South East Asia......Even in your home you can get electrocuted in your non grounded home......Its never going to change.......

If the RTP have not done anything by now then they will take no action.

Tourists bring billions $$$$$ to Thailand and they have a right to be protected from these idiots. Take a look at Jontiem the swimming area is

completely separate from where Jet Ski's and Speedboats can land.

The Islands seem to think they can do as they like, up to and including murder. Well I believe that needs to stop. If the Police will not sort it out

then boycott all the Islands.

Sorry, cannot see the name on the side of the speedboat, if it's a Lomlahk or...?

What does it matter who owns the speedboats? It's the drivers who are to blame. As for Han's ridiculous remark about not going to Samui, some of us live there or have homes there! Why should we put up with this crass and selfish behaviour?

C'mon guys.

It's their country!

It's their culture!

We are supposed to respect all idiocy that goes on in Thailand because we're just guests.

If you don't like it then you should just go home. whistling.gifwhistling.gifwhistling.gif
